Friday May 26
Weight 118, calories 1448. Wine and carbs... We had dinner with relatives last night and I had too much of both so I am at the high point of my range. This may be a tough weekend.
I sent a txt to BIL that we should agree to disagree (about FB posting). He didn't reply, so I guess I got my answer. After the funeral I don't have to see him again, but how sad for DH and BIL.
Happy Friday! Looking forward to a LONG weekend!

Fabulous Friday to you all!
I am just full of gratitude this morning. Yesterday, went on an 9ish mile hike that is rated strenuous in at least one guidebook. It is so easy to forget that a year ago I was just barely able to "summit" the local big hill in my neighborhood. I am astonished at my body's ability to recover from many years of obesity And so grateful that I can return to the joys of being physically able --- in many ways finding my core self again.
In other gratitude news, 8 years ago I was diagnosed with a particularly aggressive type of breast cancer. 5 year survival rate isn't very good under the best of cir****tances and my treatment response was not "best." (My oncologist once commented that I am very hard to please.) I am very grateful to be an outlier in those grim statistics which is surely more a matter of luck than anything else. And a reminder that there is always hope.
It is another sunny day here today, enough of a rarity that I don't want to waste it so I will likely hit the trail again. Plus, I reluctantly sprung for a garmin after I got a bit lost (again) yesterday on a pretty established trail. It won't replace paper maps, etc, but perhaps give measure of safety when google maps aren't available. I'm looking forward to giving it a try.
Below is pic from yesterday's hike Mt Si. The variety of people of doing the hikes is matched by the variety of dogs. Yesterday's mix included a catahoula lepoard which was my family's preferred farm dog. Such a pleasure to see and the trail runner with him was gracious enough to stop and talk. (By the way, trail runners are beasts!)
Hug your gratitude tight. Thank you for being here. Shel

Well, that was interesting -- and equal parts disappointing and educational. Lately hubby's appetite is way down, so yesterday at the grocery store I bought him some Ben & Jerry's ice cream. And big shocker (really, seriously, I was shocked): Last night I ate 600 calories of his ice cream. I guess from now on that stuff has to go in the downstairs freezer. Or not come home at all. I swear, maintenance is just one big long science experiment.
Another thing I notice is that the days I don't eat many veggies/fruits are the days I eat more not-so-nutritious carbs. Clearly, I don't replace fruits and veggies with more protein but with bad-carby carbs. I suppose that's a big fat duh to us all. But there you have it: more evidence that those veggie-fruit thingies not only offer more nutrition, but thwart carb cravings.
Gratitude. :) This time, for the opportunity to observe my relationship with food.

Greetings Grateful Ones
I am grateful that you are here Shel and taking these wicked hikes. Good for you. I am also grateful my PCP thinks my weight is just fine and I shouldn't lose any. Tee Tee. He is so funny - I said "I had another question but I forgot it". He said "Oh, was it regarding memory issues? " Anyway I am basically healthy except that my blood platelets have dropped to 65 again. That had happened a couple of years ago and a week of prednisone normalized it. Hope thats all it is again.
Signed up with a personal trainer. I think I will get one that works with old people and explained in detail about my hand issues. Will also go to some yoga and old people classes. Hope I can get into it. For me the key is finding a way to fit it in to the schedule I keep. I don't get up early and I need a block of studio time so If I can go to an 11 am class and then to studio for the afternoon it will work. 8 am will not work for this old owl.
Liz sorry BIL is being a B-------. In my law practice I too found that people had different ways of grieving and anger at everyone is part of it. Also episodes of immaturity. But some people are just toxic and the best thing is to stay away.
Carbon, sorry the arthritis is kicking up. Thats next on the list of diseases I will probably get.
Just read my post that said red wind was the magic no eat nighty night pill. Of course I mean't red wine.
Well take care all. In spite of various hurtles, life is good. Diane S
I'm sure you'll fit in that personal trainer somewhere - I hope it works for you.
I'd love a glass of wine a day but I think it would work the opposite of what I'd like with my eating habits.
