I am so tired! It is 4:30 am -- DH jumped out of bed at 4 and threw all the lights on. No explanation of why but by the time he went back to bed I was wide awake.

Saw MIL yesterday and she doesn't look good. The only way she will go home will be on hospice, but that may even be a long shot. At least all her children have agreed that there will be no extraordinary measures. BIL brought her to the hospital because she was dehydrated and had pneumonia. The problem is that even if they resolve it now both will recur (she isn't swallowing properly anymore). Hopefully having hospice at home will mean that BIL will call them when concerned and not bring her to the hospital anymore.

On a better note, it was like mid-summer here the last few days. It is supposed to be more seasonal over the weekend, but still sunny. Hopefully I can do the flowers in the planters and if I get really energized, take out the old bushes in the front and replace them with hydrangeas.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Liz, being waked up at 4 o'clock on Saturday morning after a full week is not fair! Hope your good weather continues and that your gardening is fun. You deserve it!

The older I get, the more joy I feel in response to the changing seasons. I loved the cocooning we did this past winter, and now I'm so ready to be outdoors with sunshine on my skin. PSA -- yesterday hubby bought me a monster tube of SPF 50 sunscreen.

After my recent weeks of Focus, Balance, and Enough (I'm liking those weekly themes), I'm getting interested again in mixing up my daily menus. Post-cruise, understandably, I've been eating lots of the same things. So this morning I flipped through the AllRecipes.com site for inspiration in the legumes/vegetables realm and have made a list of new luncheon and dinner menus. Now we'll see if I actually make some of them. ;)

This weekend will be quiet, which is what we like. Y'all have fun, boys and girl!

Greetings Fine People

Well still at 135.5 today. Gotta get back to tuna packets for lunch instead of cheese.

Hope you can get some rest Liz. A weekend nap may be in order. Must be hard to deal with erratic behavior. So sorry. Hydrangeas sound like a good thing. Ours are just starting to get buds.

Well Carbon I hope you get to spend time with the toddler now that there is little brother around. Their mom will no doubt need help once in awhile.

Ann, love the "Balance" and "Enough" themes.

Well the weather lady promised a week of sun. Liar! Its clouded over but no rain. I want my sunshine and am glad for you that have it.

Made egg foo yung last night with a little chicken. For some reason it tastes good to me and I like the crunchy bean sprouts.

Well I have sort of been on cruise control in life lately and need to make some plans and goals if I am going to get a few pounds off. Ditch the cheese and more walking sounds like the ticket. Seems getting started is the hardest part of anything.

Enjoy your weekend all. Diane S

Ann, thanks for the focus and balance reminder ! Devon, your classroom looks beyond exciting and vibrant !! What a great way to empower your students to love learning in a way that works for them !! I would love to have worked with you !! Liz, sorry about your early start and Carbon, I'm sure you'll miss your toddler !!

Got tired of trimming and weeding around my front light pole and iris bed. Dug out grass and weeks, put down fabric barrier, and added some decorative pots with flowers, expanded the area, and mulched the entire thing. Love it !! Going to add some pinwheels to the back vegetable beds, to deter the birds.

Sushi with my Pharmacist daughter tonight.

Diane, thank you so much for your kind words. I have to admit, the change is just as good for me as it is for the students. I needed something new and a new challenge in classroom structure. Making this change was my way of preparing for my vision for the next school year.

We have a new superintendent this year. She has made some major errors in communication, but she is a teacher at heart and her vision for the district is student centered with an emphasis on best practices rather than curriculum and intervention rather than remediation (which is my own philosophy). She's also willing to put her money where her mouth is and is providing ongoing PD in methodology - she's proposing a 7 year plan! That's more than I have ever heard of any district doing. Many are balking at these changes, but I am very excited. It's a chance for me to go back to all my Mosaic of Thought, ELIC, Denver PEBC training, etc... methods of teaching, rather than beating a basal which became the norm during NCLB. I'm sure Mrs. DeVos would come utterly unglued, if she knew what I do in my room! However, the proof is in the pudding!

It makes me feel good just to look at your classroom on Facebook. What a great learning environment.

Liz I must have gotten your sleep allotment last night. Woke early, ate breakfast, surfing on iPad, went back to sleep until 7. That doesn't happen often. Hoping for not too much stress with MIL.

WT 218 up.

Steps: Had the new AC heat pump repaired and the old one still cooling but started leaking into our airstream. Changed out AC units yesterday. Almost completed the dust collection. Nice to not have hoses all over the floor. Caught 2 more bee swarms. Must be a huge ferrel hive close by. This is the 4th one. Will have to close them up and take them down from the tree after dark soon but it has been raining here.

Carbon, chasing around a 2 year old is like walking an hour. I know you will miss him.

Diane S, Always look forward to your greetings. We moved out Hydrangeas here beside the shop. They had too much sun where we had them. They never skipped a beat. They are starting to bloom.

Diane O, There are old flower beds here at the shop in the woods. Old home place that burned down. DW has been thinning the bulbs. I have taken bushels to the compost pile. We are mulching new plants with planer shavings.

VSGAnn, Intermittent sunshine, yea!

More later, David
