It is DD's 29th birthday today. We are meeting her for a birthday (and Mothers Day) lunch as she is on Cape Cod with friends this weekend.

Weight 116, calories 1177. Awake at 4:30 am again after 8 hours of sleep but feel a bit more rested than the last few days. DH had a lumbar puncture yesterday and it went really well. They did it in the MGH neurology lab where it is all routine for them. No discomfort or headache, so DH was relieved.

I had a small epiphany recently. BB and Devon have much more profound ones, but I realized why the daily weighing and posting keeps me on track: 1) It keeps me honest in my tracking and weighing (no point in doing it if I don't track everything), 2) It wipes the slate clean for the upcoming day. In the past I would bargain with myself after I ate what I shouldn't: I'd tell myself I'd behave and weigh in a few days when the scale would be more kind. Of course that almost always backfired and I would keep eating improperly and put off weighing further and further until I got to almost 220 pounds.

Oh and one other thought: I really have changed how and what I eat so I think I have a better chance this time. I lost weight to goal with weigh****chers at least 3 times, but was still not eating what I should. I would reduce to the minimum points (aka calories), but a large percentage of those calories were still bad carbs like bread. Ultimately the curb craving would take over and up went the weight. Now I rarely eat the empty carbs (just veggie ones) and fill myself with dense protein whenever possible.

Have a wonderful relaxing Saturday!

Good morning!

124's. Eats have been ok, not many ostrich's earned tho I haven't had a single day where there wasn't at least one. I'm tired of looking at an ostrich for my avatar, so that part of squash the ostrich isn't likely to last thru the weekend.

A fair amount of stress, latel,y which should continue this weekend. Just adulting stress, much of it related to one who think she is an adult but she is 16 and definitely not an adult. I internalize because there is nothing to be gained by acting out. I could go on and on and on and on but I'll stop here.

It looks like it might be a surprise sunny day if one believes my bathroom scale. Its cheerful sun directly contradicts the gloom outside so I should probably double check with google before I switch my morning yoga to a day hike.

Liz, I really like the daily weighing. Like you, I find it wipes the slate clean.

Go recharge your soul,

Shel

Oh my goodness, your scale gives you a weather report?

Yes, my new scale surprised me the first day by giving me the weather.

At first I thought it was the dumbest thing ever.....like I was going to stand there shivering as it flashed my weight, body fat, current weather, and forecast.

And now I look forward to the scale's weather report. And, it's pictures of rain and/or sun are rather pretty in the morning dark.

Today was the first day that it was clearly off in the weather report. I went into settings and it was auto-locating my location to predict weather. I changed it to my zip code so it will be accurate evermore. That's a little disappointing, tho. Maybe my next scale will transport me to that sunny location with a high of 84. How cool would THAT be!

DD's stress stems from end of year over-business. As long as it doesn't escalate into something evil (like it did last year) then I can deal.

Glad you had a great weekend!

Liz, I so agree with EVERYTHING you said about the value of tracking/weighing daily. I know everyone's not alike, but speaking strictly about myself -- I could NEVER have lost 100 pounds and maintained my 100-pound weight loss thus far (2 years, 9 months post-op) without tracking. I use MFP and literally love it. It's been as useful a tool for me as my sleeve has been.

Tracking takes so little time. It's taught me so much about not just calories (which do count), but nutrition. It's helped me to become and remain mindful about so many aspects of my eating. It's encouraged me to eat from a balanced menu, which is what works well for me.

Checking in every day on MFP keeps my eye on the prize. And when my weight fluctuates I look back on my weekly, 30-day, 90-day, 180-day and past year records for context about the specific eating / exercising issues I'm currently dealing with.

Testify!

Good morning

Joey am so impressed with your muscles! Wow. And Diane glad the firing went well. Dave we need more photos, here in BC, there has been a devastating infestation of the Pine Tree beetles and eventually clever folks discovered that it makes stunning furniture. But swaths of forests are dead.

Food was most excellent but no exercise again. I thought about it but it just did not happen. We will walk up to the Farmer's Market in a few hours so that will help.

Have a great Sat. And for those of us who are going through family trials and tribulations I hope for you, as Dave often says, " peace".

A sunny, cool Saturday morning here. It's really lovely. The walnut, oak, and creek willow still have the spring green on their leaves and no summer dust covering, the roses and salvia are in full bloom, and the red house finches and the little yellow finches are at the feeder. The old dogs are having a morning nap and the younger dogs are quietly patrolling the yard as Bramble pads along behind. Promises to be a good day. Too bad I have groomings. Without the work to do, it would be an utterly perfect day.

Weight has been the same for 3 days. Since that is 8 pounds below my Vyvanse starting weight I can not complain. Perhaps IF I actually started tracking and focusing on weight loss I would lose a little more. I did not pick up the increased dosage yet, but will do sometime next week. It's interesting how the pharmacy fills the prescription. It is not filled until I come and request it. When I pick it up I have to sign for it, too. I did not realize it was a controlled substance until I had to sign for it. I asked the clerk about it and because Vyvanse is a controlled substance the protocol is different. Takes a little longer at the pharmacy that way, but I guess it makes it easier to keep track of the medicine. Shell, do all doses of controlled meds have to be accounted for?

Liz, I have been a daily weigher for years. The few times that I did not get on the scale for a stretch of time were also times that I had significant weight gains. For me the daily weighing is very helpful to own my eating behavior. Even when I was dealing with steady regain I got on the scale every day and watched the rise. There was never a moment where I thought "OMG! How did this happen?" during my regain. I was pretty accountable every day for what I was doing. Without the weighing I would have lost that accountability.

Confession: I had a hope that I could ride the Vyvanse wave down another 2-3 pounds this week. After some thought I'm glad I did not. While my overall calories have been down (a lot), my eating still has included ice cream and nibbling bites of fries, or Ron's pasta at dinner, if we are out. We had another teacher breakfast yesterday and I did eat a taste of the breakfast pizza (OMG! to die for!). But with the Vyvanse I can have just a taste and walk away. But, I know little bites and a couple of servings of ice cream during a week add up to extra calories.

Ella's heat cycle is progressing. I'm guessing we will breed sometime next weekend or early the following week. We shall see. Sometimes their is a fast rise in progesterone and LH levels and the girl is ready by day 12 or 13.

Enjoy the sunny skies and rainless day!

There are different 5 levels of controlled substances, (mostly) based on their potential for abuse weighed against medical benefit. Schedule one drugs aren't available for commercial sale (think cocaine and marijuana)

Vyvanse is in the schedule two group (pharmacists call them C-II's) which is the most tightly controlled group of the pharmacy's inventory.Every single pill is accounted for, every step of the way.

Each pharmacy can choose how to track their C-II's but to be missing anything is a big whoppin' deal. Most pharmacies do a counted inventory at least daily. Typically, they also do a spot inventory check whenever they are filling a prescription, too. So, besides at least double counting what went into your bottle, they do a count on the remaining inventory which better match what they are supposed to have.

This paranoia has massively increased since I last worked in retail pharmacy....mostly driven by the opioid crisis. (Most opioids are also C-II's) Vyvanse, of course, is not an opioid. Don't want any confusion!

You can be sure that your signature for picking it up will be digitally saved forever. That even comes in handy for people like me who have to call the pharmacy when a patient claims that they didn't pick something up.

When my PS was prescribing an opioid painkiller for me he had to search online to find any other prescriptions I had. I thought that was interesting, but sort of funny that he couldn't find any (not even the ones prescribed when I had WLS). Probably because I have 2 last names and one has an apostrophe (it is always a pain in the you know what to find me in any system). I ended up not taking the ones after WLS or PS but wanted them just in case (dropped them at police station to make sure they were disposed of properly).
