Saturday May 6
Thank God it is the weekend (and I got 9 hours of sleep last night)!
After only 3 hours of sleep the prior night we were in Boston from 7:30 am- 6 pm for DH clinical trial pre-screening (new Alzheimer's medication). He passed all the tests yesterday. Assuming blood work comes back fine, the last step for acceptance will be a PET scan. At first DH couldn't remember our previous discussions on it and was being a bit stubborn (gets a look on his face that reminds me of a small child when he is like that). He wasn't sure he wanted to do it. We talked for a while and he got assurances from the clinical people (in addition to it being written in the consent both he and I had to sign) that if there were side-effects he couldn't tolerate he had the right to drop out for any reason at any time, so then he was quite cheerful about it. Strangely the one thing that bothered him most was that he would have to wear lots of sunscreen and stay out of direct sun. He used to do that anyway - it has only been in the last year or so that he has been "tanning" at the beach (was always under an umbrella previously).
Weight 114.5, calories 915. I had to eat a protein bar for lunch (didn't expect to be there that long). I did make taco meat last night and had it on a salad for dinner to celebrate Cinco de Mayo (DH had a burrito).
BTW, have any of used ever done one of the ancestry DNA tests? DD's birthday is coming up. She only wants $, but I'd like to give her something different in addition. She (and DS) were adopted and DD is very interested in what her ancestry is (only knows 1/2). If you've used them which one is good?
Have a wonderful Saturday!

Liz, I used 23andMe, and was VERY pleased with the health predisposition component. My father was adopted, and I was concerned about predispositions for hereditary issues I had no way of knowing about. Highly recommend !

Internet down again last 2 days, so this will be short since I hate typing on my phone.
Weight up today at 135.8; was 135.2 yesterday. May be due to more pool exercise. No matter --it will settle out.
Have so much more energy, thanks (I think) to being back in the pool again this week.
Gorgeous weather here again. Will be working outside this morning.
I want my Internet back!

136.4, up a pound, down a pound, that is how it has been going for me. At least it was down this morning!
Lots of running around today. DS#3 has his 8th grade formal dance. First time having a "date". Haircuts for the boys this morning, running camping gear over to one of his friend's houses for the sleepover tonight, need to go to DS#2's art gallery showing at the University (he was one of 4 from his school with art chosen to be represented), and pre-dance pictures this evening!
DH still not feeling well. He had me make him Kraft Mac N Cheese out of a box the last 2 nights for dinner - yuck! Boys and I went out for fish.
Have a great day friends!
Paula
Typical day off, full of leisure ;)
I think it is rather brilliant that DH is craving Kraft MnC. Such a comforting food for him now. But, it may forever be tainted with its association to feeling yucky. Not a bad food to ruin for the future.

Interesting about the mac 'n cheese instincts in the middle of chemo. That's what hubby (who's been through chemo twice) wants when nothing else appeals. At this point, anything they want is what they get! :)
And consider Marinol -- a cannabinoid that replicates the "munchies" but nothing else from marijuana. It really helped hubby out. And the ex-cop in him really resisted it. LOL!

Hello all,
I am at the top of my allowed range. I don't have to go into full MFP mode. But, I am concerned about a sneaky return of some old behaviors. None are terrible but they are so insidious that I am calling ostrich on myself.
These behaviors all occur at home....work is still safe because of the structure. This week, when I see ostrich behavior, I have to post an ostrich picture here at home. (Location still to be determined)
I am in a dial-back period as far as food goes meaning that I am dialing back high calories foods like nuts and peanut butter. I would like to drop a few pounds over the next several weeks. But, isn't necessarily eating particular foods that will earn me an ostrich....it is more of eating something I "wish" I wouldn't but rationalize as ok in the moment. A bit hard to explain, maybe I'll figure out a better explanation over the week. But, like porn, I know it when I feel it....even if it is a day later.
I have never been one to tie something like this to a reward. But, there is something I want this week than I haven't been able to rationalize so I am going to wrap this all together. (Why not?) It is triple points days at Nordstrom this weekend and there is a black pair of jeans I want (but don't need) that I am going to order. I get to keep them if I do well on my personal ostrich challenge for the week.
I haven't even decided what "doing well" is but I feel the need just to get this out into the ether-net before I lose my stream of thought. My streams of thoughts are delicate and the ostrich side of me is strong and squash the best of intentions before they have a chance to take hold. So, if this all sounds half baked.....it is.
And that is that.
Squash the ostrich is the mantra of the week.
By the way, I never share this type of thing. Never. Don't you feel special to hear it?
Shel
