Night Eating
Greetings All
Ok, what the hell is it about night eating? Once I raised the issue with my surgeon at support group that obese people seem to eat at night more. He replied "everybody eats at night". So why is that? Is it some Neanderthal thing that if you eat late you maintain the gain when you sleep? Is it just because you are to busy all day finding things to eat that you don't get to eat until late? I wish someone would do some anthropoligical paper on why this is. Gotta be a reason that is part based in science and not just our crazy 21st century stress. People I know who get up and eat a big breakfast are generally not overweight. (donuts do not count as breakfast).
Exception is my deceased SIL who ate a can of tamales or chicken and rice for breakfast.
Think I might research this. Dr. C says its a good thing to get 30 g protein within an hour of getting up (gag). Lets think about this. Diane S
No study here. But my night eating is often triggered by insomnia which can lead to rumination about stresses I have little control over which leads to eating. And if I stay up late enough I just get hungry.

I don't eat I the middle of the night but for the last couple of hours before bed I ALWAYS want to eat. It isn't actual hunger but huge "head-hunger". I can keep my calories low up until then and end up falling seriously off the wagon. Maybe an Anthropologist can say why - perhaps it is a natural inclination to eat prior to hibernating??? Interesting point about breakfast: DH has always been slim and he eats the equivalent of about 2-3 breakfasts (his usual is a 2 egg omelette with cheese; cereal or oatmeal; banana or other fruit).

I just did a quick google search about eating at night. Of all the pieces I read, this one was the best of the bunch that I saw. There's nothing earth-shattering in it. But the 10 tips make sense to me. Maybe others will find it helpful.
