VSG Maintenance Group
Wednesday March 15
Though there was a lot of wind yesterday, there wasn't much snow accumulation in Jersey City. 4-6 inches of slushy stuff. Luckily we were able to take a shuttle back and forth between the hotel and the location of the meeting. Long day though: 8-6 without breaks (we ate while we worked). Today is 8-3, so I'll be exhausted by the time I'm home tonight around 8.
No weight of course, but calories were 1473, with mostly okay choices. I was a little worried at dinner when there was a 4 course meal, but the appetizer was sushi (shared), I skipped the salad and dessert and ate enough of the shrimp/salmon dish so it didn't seem odd. I was with people who didn't know about my WLS, so felt a little nervous about eating with them.
Have a good hump day (Wednesday)!

Schools here closed for the second day in a row. Unheard of !! That's one way to enjoy my retirement ! Thirty inches of snow blowing and drifting now. Much of the plowing and shoveling I did yesterday has been undone, and is now tightly packed. The good news is that the calorie burn will be significant !
Paula, glad to hear day one went well. BB, your dedication to building muscle is impressive. Make sure you are taking measurements, as you may see more significant results there than the scale. Liz... Your DH is much better off where he is, than on the Cape, right now! I love how everyone is sharing hope and experience regarding sleep issues, medication, and fighting the good fight.
Feeling enveloped by this safe, supportive space !

Hope that all of you in the north / east are faring OK under your latest snowfalls. Here in the lower Midwest the ten-day forecast says winter is leaving us again.
We've had such a lovely, snuggly winter, but next week will likely be our last bit of that. Thereafter, we'll spend one week battening down the hatches and packing for our spring cruise--a leisurely paddle from Florida to Portugal. We'll be gone 17 days and plan to come home utterly spoiled.
P.S. I slept much better last night. Discovered a new sleep hygiene tip that keeps me from watching Netflix in bed: I removed headphones from my iPad before getting in bed. :)

Very frustrated today. Trying to keep a can-do attitude. But warding off that feeling that the weight gain grim reaper will catch up with me and I cannot keep running forever.
Weight 163 otd. Over 3 weeks in and I'm not even down 2lbs. Calories 1197, protein 30% (94g) carbohydrates 25% (78g) but fat whoa 45% (63g)
I really REALLY didn't want to go workout but husband guilted me and so I did 50 min. treadmill. Treadmill says 400 calories burned, fitbit says 352.
I don't get it. I feel like I've overhauled SO much--from the small things like low carb tortillas instead of regular and egg beaters instead of eggs in the morning, to the bigger like not eating out lunch very often, and limiting wine, and the biggest, exercising 6 days a week. I know it's only been 3 weeks but sheesh.
I guess I can take comfort in knowing that I didn't really gain 1 lbs. yesterday. And the only known difference is I did eat out for lunch. Rather than soup and salad I got sandwich with a side salad for only $1 more (theory being: more protein). I did have bread and oil to begin, the side salad had a goat cheese disk, which I ate, but very little of the dressing, and I only ate half the chicken from the sandwich--no bun. Yes bread and oil can be dangerous, but estimating all that for 630 calories. I need to be able to occasionally go out to lunch with people and I feel like I made a good choice. Sure I could've skipped the bread, but I'm human. And at the end of the day isn't it about calories?
Our weather here is cold but gosh I cannot imagine all that snow! It's been in the 50s for highs, but increasing through the week.
Diane-the gripping exercises bother me the most. If you did have a trainer, I'm sure they could assist you in finding exercise to suit you. But a little bit of googling could probably lead you to an answer as well. Or just good ol' cardio.
Ocean-thank you. Fingers crossed my fat is converting to muscle. I tend to doubt it totally explains things, but I do go back to the doctor in a week. We'll see.
Paula-glad to hear your DH treatment went well.
I don't eat out very often but when I do it always results in 1-2 lbs on the scale. Pure water. It will go away. Trust your program, you are doing great! 3 weeks in body-time is just a blink. It isn't used to the changes. 3 weeks in brain-time is forever, tho. I totally get that.

208. Trying not to panic and turn this around. My weight loss is slipping through my carb covered fingers.
I took Friday off from work to attend my boss' mother's funeral and attended the repast with my son. Because his mother was 90, it was a celebration but the empathy I felt seeing my boss' sadness at the church picked the scab of losing my own mother. Then we went to eat. My son was a champ and made great choices, so I followed his lead for a change.
Saturday, we had the kids. Sunday, we did errands and I got pulled over going to the grocery store to stock up for the pending storm. The cop told me my registration had been revoked. Luckily, I had my PBA card ready, and the cop took pity on me. He explained that it was probably a mixup, he didn't tow my car, told me not to let him SEE me drive. He told me to park over there and said he was leaving. (I was being slow, he had to tell me several times before I got it.) He told me to get a ride to the DMV in the morning to straighten it out and there would be no penalty. It took ALL... FLIPPIN... DAY. Luckily, my daughter was feeling good and took me all over the State to get it straightened out. All is well, but we split a turkey provolone sandwich from Costco and bought some bad treats ... for my boss' birthday. The office closed yesterday. We only got rain at the Shore, but the wind was howling and wicked. I ate half a box of my boss' Pocky. I can NEVER buy it again.
Oh, and when we got home from the DMV, there was a red tag on my door advising that my water was shut off, the day before the storm. Luckily (always gotta look for the silver lining), they were able to turn the water on immediately. I will excuse myself from this stress eating and this will be the new level required to stress eat in the future. Seriously, this has got to stop, right?
