136 OTD. Down just a hair, but not because of anything healthful that I am doing. No exercise and must have eaten almost a full box of those damn girl scout cookies in the last 2 days. The flavors I like best are gone, so won't be a draw for me anymore. It helps to have 3 teenage boys that devour everything in site!

Saw my dermatologist for ear yesterday. I'm continuing with oral antibiotics. He said it will heal, just will take longer. Some of the dying skin is starting to slough off and my poor ear looks like it has been through a meat grinder. At least it is covered so nobody has to see it!

DH had PET scan last night. Will be taking him in for the esophageal ultrasound today. Hopefully we will get final staging and the start of a plan at our oncology meeting tomorrow.

DS#1 seems a little better. At least he is at school. Appt. made with psychiatrist for early April to talk about starting meds again.

Haircut today too. Busy, busy, busy!

Love you all, thank you for your prayers and support. It means the world to me!

Paula

In the range. Sadie and I are going away for a long weekend with an old friend. Three hours in the car !! Lots of walking breaks for both of us !! All of the talk of safe rooms made me re-think how I could use my Reiki room. Weather is not the only force we consistently have to deal with. While this forum is a "safe room", we all need an immediate safe place to decompress and re-energize.

Boy, I like that -- an expanded definition of "safe room." Thanks. :)

205. Made Irish soda bread last night without my grandmother's recipe. I couldn't find it, my daughter couldn't find her copy and I figured I knew it enough to tweak an online recipe. Nope, it was not even close. It is soda bread and would be acceptable to most people. My son told me I should not give the bread to my boss (for his family after his mother's funeral) because it is not right. It is not right, but it is not bad and is still better than store-bought. I will promise him a re-do. I just requested a copy of the recipe from my cousins.

I made "ka boom boom cow" for dinner again last night. It is my grandsons' favorite, so I let them name it, which is why it makes no sense. This recipe was born of necessity - i.e., broke and out of most staples --

1 package ground turkey cooked then drained. While the ground turkey is cooking, I microwave a big bowl of Costco frozen mixed veggies (corn, peas & carrots). I put the ground turkey back in the frying pan and add half a stick of butter and cover with good Parmesan cheese (not from a green can, although I suppose it could be used in a pinch) then mix in the cooked veggies. Who would've thunk that it would become a favorite?

Please post your favorite Broke, Simple & WGS friendly recipe, especially your favorite variations of crack slaw and egg roll in a bowl. I think I, too, need to shake up my routine.

Hi Barb! Welcome!

OH ate my earlier post. Too long anyway.

No weight, DH in way.

What's your chronotype? Apparently, morning peeps eat better than night owls. Summary article is in NYT's health section. This isn't limited to night-time eating: morning peeps make better food choices in general. Take home message is that night owls need to be mindful that they are programed to poorer food choices.

I think that we are all plenty mindful at this point but interesting to know that this yet another sneaky way our body sabotages us.

I think I am chrono-flexible. Was certainly night time oriented decades ago. Work/child schedule shifted me to morning. My food choices are usually pretty good. Food volume, in general, is more an issue.

Have a great day!

Shel

Thanks, Shel, for the study reference. Just read the NYTimes summary and found the link there to the underlying Finnish study published in the journal Obesity.

Finland does some interesting big-group nutritional studies.

I have always been a big breakfast morning eater. Problem is I never really slowed down as the day went on.

Hello everyone. No weight to report as I got off to a strange start. Literally rolled out of bed and took dh to work (wearing my pajamas) and then returned to bed. Feeling a little off kilter but not unwell. Also going into work for an unusually short and late shift.

Putting this out there, although not thought through, but I'm considering giving up alcohol completely and permanently. Simply stated, consumption always leads to unplanned eating and sometimes to additional drinking, which is also unplanned. Overall, I'm thinking alcohol might not be worth it. More to come on that front.

Today's denim tip - highly recommend each and every woman here invest in one pair of Parker Smith Bombshell Skinny jeans. They retail for about $220 in Canada, so likely retail around $150 in the U.S. They will change your life.
