VSG Maintenance Group
Friday January 27
on 1/27/17 10:26 am - NJ
204. Support group meeting last night was just what my son and I needed. My son is pre-op but he is accepted into the second half post-op group. I have to get my butt back in gear. Yes there has been an inordinate amount of troubles in my life, but it is time to get back on track. My son expressed an interest in Aikido, which would be perfect. I am going to search for classes.
TGIF!
I still love Fridays -- haven't been retired so long I have forgotten their significance.
My weight this morning was the same as yesterday morning -- 134.2.
Yesterday's macros / exercise:
Cals - 1,338 (much lower than usual; average last year was 1,725/day)
Carbs - 127
Fat - 55
Protein - 82
Sugar - 66
Fiber - 17 (lower than usual; usually at least 25)
Exercise - yoga class
Cray cray morning! Met up with my sister at 6:00 am and drove her to an eye doctor appointment 100 miles away. Then I drove us home, dropped her off, gassed up the car, and did the weekend grocery shopping.
At noon I met up with my husband for the opening of a new, improved wing on our small town's hospital. Wonderful new facility!
Only bad thing about today is that I missed my aquarobics class this morning. That means I must walk this weekend for sure.

"An incredibly young 71-year-old." LOL!
OK, it's time to REALLY introduce myself.
Yeah, I'm really ******g 71 years old. That number sounds so old, doesn't it? But the reality of being 71 isn't what I'd imagined 20-30-40-50 years ago. And not what any of you who are 30 or 20 or even 10 years younger might imagine.
I'm blond, incredibly energetic and, even without plastics, look like I'm in my 50s -- thanks to better genes than I deserve, VSG, and my determination not to die fat! My fashion / style muse is Debbie Harry. BTW, she's 71, too. ;)
I'd post current pix for you here, but I'm commitedly on the down-low about WLS. Only DH and a couple of girlfriends (who live 1,000 miles away in opposite directions) know. Siblings don't know, my other close friends don't know, and my clients and colleagues don't know. Since I spent my whole life yo-yo dieting, everyone assumed I'd finally figured it out. Clearly, I did. ;) But I'm not a WLS missionary.
My support system includes my beloved husband, my great surgeon and his brilliant nurse practitioner, my therapist (whom I've been seeing for nearly 3 years), and dozens of virtual WLS friends I've met on WLS boards. And now, I hope, y'all. :)
The future's so bright I gotta wear shades!

Good for you! I work in cardiac rehab and personally know some young 70-80 year olds - and some old 40 year olds!
Do you Facebook? If so, several of us are FB friends and we could keep the conversation regarding WLS obsolete - as a matter of fact I don't recall a time where that has come up on FB with my VSG/FB friends.
I'll PM you my FB name if you care to be friends, if not, I understand
I'll be 52 in May, so a few years your junior but no Spring Chicken myself!
Wow - you must be super active to be able to eat that many calories at 71! I'm 61 (almost 62 - shush...) and my maintenance calories seem to be around 1200 (still kind of new to this).

Liz, I hear that a lot, but I'm really not super-active. Yes, I exercise 5-6 days a week, but I also spend way too much time sitting and typing and reading. Summers I'm definitely more on-the-go, since we live in the country and mow many acres, trim fencelines, clear trails, etc. That last sentence suggests a bit more enthusiasm for the rural experience than I always feel. ;)
I've noticed that all VSG patients aren't able to eat the same amounts or types of foods without regaining. While I was losing weight, my brilliant bariatric nurse practitioner did caution me not to eat super low-cal so as not to lower my metabolism any further. By Month 5 she urged me to eat 1,000 cals and by Month 7 she had me eating 1,200 cals. When I hit my first weight goal (150 pounds) I started adding calories until I was at 1700-1800, but still lost another 15 pounds over the next 9 months.
Although I'm tremendously grateful for every morsel I eat, I always wonder if things will change. So much of this is such a mystery.
Also a mystery to me is how such a basic, important human function as metabolism could still be so poorly understood.

Greetings Gifted People
Well heck, 133 today. Had to rush off to the gallery to work and do other stuff. Then fight with computers for the other gallery and finally do some art work.
As mentioned, I got the old dog groomed yesterday. She looks very nice but under all that fuzzy fur she is FAT. No wonder she has trouble moving around. Hubby takes her out in the back yard to the far end so she has to walk all the way back. About 100 feet. We gotta get some weight off her. Vet thinks the weight off will help a lot. Of course the pup is skinny and wild and doesn't much like her food. Go figure.
Thats it for now. Diane S
I've always had beagles so always had to measure their food - they will chub up at the drop of... a piece of cheese. The chihuahua will self maintain.
