Today is my 5 year "surgiversary". I am acknowledging it here. Somehow I feel the need to acknowledge this anniversary. I am not particularly excited about today, even though it marks the day of my official "vet" status. One of my students has his birthday today. His mom brought in 30 cupcakes and set them on my desk to hand out. Sigh...

Good news is that I am down another 2.2 pounds today. Clean eating is paying off. Now it is up to me to keep it up.

One of my strategies is to eat relatively the same things each day for breakfast, morning meal, and lunch, and afternoon snack. By doing this it takes the thought out of eating and I know I'm staying within calorie limits.

I am having trouble meeting my calorie goals for each day. I find this utterly amusing. He who can stuff carbs in without any trouble struggles to get in enough calories when eating appropriately. It seriously does make me chuckle. Yesterday, I had to have a yogurt to get my calories up over 1200. My goal is to get 1300-1500 in per day, so I followed the yogurt with 2 tsp of PB. Got up to 1291 and called it quits for the day.

I am enjoying incorporating apples and bananas into my weekly plan. I really do enjoy a banana now and then - as long as it's not too ripe.

At five years out, my restriction certainly is not what it was at 6 or12 months. My restriction has seemed to hold steady to where I was at 18 months out. I can honestly say that 3 oz of lean, dense meat, ¼ cup green beans, and 2 oz of baked sweet potato is satisfying and filling. If I eat that meal slowly enough and am mindful, I can feel that I am physically full. I have had this level of restriction for the past 3 years. I think this is pretty much where it will stay.

This is not to say that if I eat a carb-laden meal my restriction is the same. It is not. I can eat 2 pieces of pizza and a small salad. (Though I would be satisfied with one piece, I can fit in two!). I can eat a boatload of popcorn - an issue should I get movie popcorn. I can eat half of a large bagel, and lord knows how many cookies I can cram in my sleeve. I even once ate an entire Peet's oat nut scone. I did not feel well, but it fit in my sleeve. I guess I share this tale of poor eating to illustrate that when I work my sleeve, it works. When I don't, well....

Happy hump day to all. Happy Surgiversary to me.

Congratulations, I have always thought of you as a vet in spirit!

My surgeon seemed surprised that I still have good restriction when I eat like I am supposed to. I don't understand why that is news.  Is it uncommon? Later she commented that regain is a matter of behavior, nothing more mysterious than that.

I agree with your surgeon, 100%. It is a matter of behavior. In my case, too, it was also a matter of not understanding, accepting, and embracing the fact that I used food for emotional reasons. That lack of awareness, of course, has influenced to my eating behavior to an exponential degree!

Happy Surgiverary!!!  You've kept it real and I appreciate that!  I've learned so much from you.  I'm happy to be sharing my journey with you!  Do not undermine the success you've had ...success comes with failure...that's the beauty of the journey!

Greetings Great People

Well its a gloomy overcast day here that makes me want to curl up with a book (or as a friend used to say"curdle up with a book"). Still at 131.5 today. Ate a slice of pizza yesterday at the studio since  I had to run around with errands and such. Gotta say it was filling and satisfying and I felt sated all afternoon. Sure tasted good.

Liz the reveal sounds like fun. I always love the before and after stuff here on OH.

Dave glad the dogs are doing better - except the glasses. I had a puppy that did that once, Very costly.

Kairk, congrats on your five years. Think how much better off you are than 5 years ago. And think of all the knowledge that you have gained and shared. A true vet indeed. But cupcakes?  Maybe you should send homework home to the parents about healthy eating.

Well cold and slippery should indeed equal few steps outside Carbon. I am becoming a real weather wimp in my old age.

Spencerella, your job sounds fun. What a good atmosphere to work in.

Not much news here. Still working on holiday art and not very enthusiastic about it. Still trying to put the house back together after the ant treatment. Its making me throw out some stuff for sure.

Brother texted me he is going to Cuba for the weekend. Must be nice. Gotta admit I am curious about it as I love the caribbean.

Keep up the clean eating everyone. We have shrimp for tonight so it may be hot and sour soup. Diane S.

Late to the party today. 131 OTD. Didn't make either of my goals yesterday. Will try for them again tomorrow. No goals for today but I didn't do too bad. The Christmas goodies are starting to come in full force from our patients - always a hard time of year! Onward and downward (for the scale!)
