I still think it weird that my sister said nothing related to me >200 lb weight loss--- not ever. She did know about my surgery. I didn't need to hear congratulations or anything like that --- more of an acknowledgement of change, maybe? Total silence feels a bit like criticism if I think too much about it.
I wouldn't worry about not having the surgery shared with you. Our whole society is weird about weight and food. Sometimes it is hard to know how to behave no matter which side of the knife you are on.
I think being your usual loving aunt-self sounds just right....but part of that is saying something along the lines of "I am so glad to see you! It has been too long! And wow, don't you look great! How are you?" You don't have to bring up the weight loss specifically or even wink at it. But, if she looks especially great, then say so....just like you always would have even if you were just commenting on a new hair cut or blouse.
Enjoy the family gathering, truly.

Greetings Dear Maintainers
Liz, so sorry for your loss. What a tough thing for your son to have to go through. Wishing you and your family some peace. Be grateful there are good memories as they are important.
Well 133 today. Need to get cracking and tracking and also moving. Feeling in kind of a rut these days. At least my younger brother is flying back to the Midwest to see our mom who continues on hospice.
We have had ants coming in the house this fall as often happens. They are getting in the dog food in spite of well sealed jars. I bought a container at the pet store called a "Vittle Vault" that is supposed to be ant proof. But we are also having exterminator come which means having to clear all the counters and such. Glad we are not having a holiday meal here. To bad there is not a people proof "Vittle Vault" (guess we could pad lock the refrigerator).
Joey I agree with Shel that you should just tell your niece she looks great. If there is a noticeable amount of weight loss its pretty hard to say nothing. But you know her best. Regardless, I hope she has had some success.
Well my holiday pot luck assignment is to bring my creamed spinach made with fat free sour cream. And our hostess says no hors d'oevres since there is always so much food. Those pre meal little snacks are my downfall so its a good thing.

Thank you for the condolences. My son had a tough time at the funeral itself but was doing well when we left the lunch later. He was spending time with his 9 cousins (all fairly close in age).

113 for me today but food is still not on point. Liz, I'm very sorry for your loss. Joey, I think most families are weird and weight loss surgery exacerbates that factor. Nothing personal.
Was up at 430 am for the boutique's sale. People waiting in line when I reported for work at 5:40 am go figure! Picked up a few special pieces for myself, a coat for DD (if she can still fit in xl) and added in some great non-sale shirts for DH. Damaged the credit card for sure! Yes, I work for clothes
Home to nap and have a quiet evening at home. Back at it tomorrow!

"I think most families are weird and weight loss surgery exacerbates that factor" Amen to that. I used to think my family was the only weird one. NOT. My brother used to say "we are all crazy in our own way." after working as a nurse I really do believe that to be true.

"We are all crazy in our own way"! Can I double ditto that? Just like no family is "normal". What the heck is "normal" anyway??
