120.5 this morning. Went to Zumba last night, meaning not much dinner and it ended up being "clean-out" day, so it dropped low.

Have a family funeral today. Tough one for my son as it is his birth grandmother.  We adopted him at 4 days but opened his adoption 12 years ago when he was 13.  We now live in the same town as most of his birth family.  They became like extended family for all of us. My son is very sensitive and death is hard for him since his first experience was watching his older sister get sicker and sicker with cancer, then die. But with this he says that part of the problem was that he was unprepared (though she was 79 and had cancer she seemed to be doing well).  Anyway, he has been with his birth family most of the time the last 2 days and it has been a real strain on him.  Though in the past he has enjoyed being treated like one of the family I think it is more difficult because he was meeting a lot of extended family all at the same time.  He met the immediate family one or two at a time over several years. My husband, sister-in-law and I will be there today so hopefully that will help. Anyway, it is sad to lose Elisabeth - she was a gracious, intelligent women - had been a very successful chemist in a mans world. She was lovely to us: We had been in her home and she to ours.  The last time we saw her was at my sons graduation this summer in Vermont.

Fabulous Friday to you, my peeps!

123 OTD today!  Good yoga class and steps yesterday.  I ate the last bits of mac and cheese that I made for DD's potlock in the very late evening. I have had very little pasta since VSG.   I thought there was just a couple of small bites remaining but I was able to efficiently mine the pan for about 1/3 cup.  (Who has time to measure when you are scraping up baked mac and cheese bits?)  Aunt Yvonne's mac and cheese recipe still rocks!

Of course the problem wasn't really the mac and cheese, it was that it opened the door to more afterward.  Maybe it wet my appetite, or that I was tired and should be in bed, or maybe there was a bit of WTH, but I ended up eating more other stuff, too. None of it terrible, just lots of bites of this and that that I didn't need.   I think DianeO commented once about exploring our addictions and not just trying to ignore for the rest of our lives. While I don't understand the whole scenario, I was at least observant.

Liz, I am very sorry for your family's loss.   What a treasured gift that your son was able to know his birth grandmother.

Hope everyone has a terrific day,

Shel

So sorry to hear about the loss of Elisabeth. Prayers for peace and strength for all!

123.4 today - same. Kids have the day off from school today but I imagine will sleep until late morning or early afternoon.

Normal (and even reduced) daily activities are pooping me out. As much as I would like to do some formal exercise I just don't think it is in the cards right now. I'll be back to work in less than 2 weeks. Hope I can muster the energy for a full day. Of course a lot of healing can happen in a week plus.

Take care of you today my friends!

It is amazing how fast the time flies, isn't it?  Yes, a lot of healing can happen in the next couple of weeks.  When your body is pooped, glue yourself to the chair/sofa/bed! Consider it non-negotiable!  Say this out loud to the family.  Are you brave enough to let the family take over Thanksgiving?

Being OTD today makes me especially bossy.

I'll make the Thanksgiving meal but since it us just my family of 5 the job isnt so onerous. We have chicken instead of turkey. Will do mashed potatoes and gravy, a cheesy broccoli rice casserole, cranberries and crescent rolls. Not too bad.

Good Morning!  I'm enjoying the cool breeze and coffee.  Thanksgiving Break is here!  There was not such a sense of urgency this year for me for the break!  I'm thinking that's a good thing!  The Library has been good for me.  Making small changes that make sense to me (and others as I asked for others advise before I make the change).  My November story time went well.  I dressed up like Pete the Cat and read The First Thanksgiving.  We read.  We made a paper plate Pete the Cat Pilgrim. We made a snack with graham crackers, yellow frosting and M&M's.  I'm reading a chapter book with the 4-6th graders called There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom.  It's been fun!

Hoping for good news Diane O. :)

I've never made gravy...but I love it!  Sausage gravy and biscuits sound good right now!

My scale is still up but has moved down a couple of pounds. I'm trying not stress and enjoy the days ahead.

Have a great weekend!

Very sorry for your loss, and I hope your son gains strength from his memories of her.  She sounds like she was impressive.

205.  Feeling better but still not 100%.  I have not been sick since way before surgery.  That must be why it's kicking my a$$, I'm not used to feeling bad anymore.

Odd situation coming up this Thanksgiving.  I mentioned this once before here because I was concerned about my niece and someone put my mind at ease.

In a nutshell, my sister-in-law and brother asked me tons of questions about my surgery ... for years... in the hope that their daughter could benefit from the same surgery.  She never dieted, was carb addicted (noodles & butter at family gatherings), and never exercised.  I told them the rules, I stressed the rules, said she would lose weight but if she did not follow the rules, it would come back....

So she apparently had the surgery with a different group and they opted not to tell me because I was too strict about the rules and would stress her out.  (I never discussed the surgery directly with her.)  Instead they told my other sister-in-law who let it slip.  My son is scheduled for surgery and told everyone.  They said nothing.  He is close with his cousin and has spent time without me at their house.  They still said nothing.  I am hurt, but my son is moreso.

We have not seen my niece since my mother died in January.  She has been away at school but comes home frequently.  So I guess this Thanksgiving will be the big reveal.  I discussed it with my support group last night.  The consensus was to ignore it completely, act as if there was nothing different, which made me smile.  I can do that.  What do you think?
