123.4, same! I did level 2 boot camp yesterday and it kicked my butt so I didn't add the yoga to it. Not sore today though, so that is good.

Work today. Didn't get much sleep. Had a family meeting initiated by son#1 regarding communication/relationship issues with son #2 prompted by the counseling sessions that son #1 is having. Good and much needed discussion but it went late into the night and my alarm rings at 4:30 am on my Friday workdays. So worth it though! I hope this might be the start to mending their relationship some and getting the whole family to communicate better with each other.

Tomorrow I am going antiquing with some lady friends. Vintage stuff isn't really my thing but I will enjoy the fellowship with the girls.

Wishing you all a happy Friday and weekend too!

123.1 today.  Yesterday's freak out has passed.  I just did a quick scan of March daily weights and all were 122-124 except for a couple at 121 and a couple at 125/126.  I'm pretty happy with being a bit south (channeling Linda's term) of my goal weight of 125.  And I like that when I have a pop up that I am still right around that 125.

Paula, I admire your family dynamics.  You all obviously work at it but like you said, it is worth it!  Also, you mentioned you would wait until after PS to have my second dexa.  I want to know more!  Is that so that I have the extra skin out of the way so therefore it is literally out of the picture?  My thought process was to compare apples to apples (so both dexas with the extra skin) and have it checked before I lose some fitness when I am not physically active after PS.  About PS,  I want you to have a PS consult for no good reason.  I just want a new-to-PS buddy.  BB, I appreciate your insights to unintended consequences of PS!

Didn't get to yoga last night and I miss it.  Will definitely get there tonight and all weekend!  I have next week off so should be a great physical activity week.

Lorna, I am sending positive energy to you!  And Blue, you are a good girl!  Have a little more ice cream!

Have a great start to the weekend!

Shel

I get comparing apples to apples but I do think the skin would factor in somehow - though probably more so for the BodPod that I did and not the Dexa. I would maybe wait until you are healed from the PS and back in full swing for exercise...but that's just me!

Quick check-in this morning.  162.4 so at least lower for now.  Hating the 160s though

I quickly mentioned yesterday how I sometimes feel like I must choose to be skinny and unsocial or fat and sociable.  I really do feel this way.  Even when I eat smaller portions out, and make the better choices, it seems to easily rack up my daily calories to a 1400-1600 maintenance-in-the-160s level.  Not to mention losing weight!  That's why I had considered doing something more extreme so that I could at least in my mind know there is an end in sight.  But there we go again with that notion of "finished."  And I know I will never be able to hide from food for good.  I have a lot of these ideas bobbling around in my head.  I think it was Shel who also said the "normies" don't really go out and eat all the time either.  I do have a pretty social friend group, but she did get me to thinking maybe they don't eat except when they're going out.  It's not so healthy, but it definitely keeps the calories down.  Part of the reason I had WLS was so that I could be more social and do more things.  And the unfortunate fact is that a vast majority of these involve food and/or alcohol.

Case-in-point:  last night.  I feel pretty good about my eating yesterday up until the evening.  I had 1/2 english muffin and a scrambled egg along with coffee for breakfast.  Lunch was a smoked chicken breast with bbq sauce and a side of green beans.  No snack except more coffee.  A good friend was having her going-away farewell at a bar.  So of course there was alcohol.  And then afterwards my husband and I went to the basketball game and were in the lounge, which is quite a novelty, and so I ate some out-of-the-ordinary and more caloric foods there.  It was a fun evening!  But I sweat bullets about my food choices.  It's miserable.  I have thought maybe I could drink a protein shake for lunch to free up more calories for things like this.  Or maybe after an evening like this, it's the next day when I ought to pay it back.  I don't want to give up these social events for life.  And I don't know that I'm strong-willed enough to go in there and not drink a beer or have a pretzel.  How do people do it?!

How do people do it?  You know how some use a technique of imagining black flies (for example) sitting on donuts so the donut doesn't look so appealing?  I think I have my own personalized version that only the tincture of age allows me.  The years leading up to VSG were so freaking miserable.  Before that, I had been still able to do what I wanted to.  I had various successes with weight loss on occasion which allowed me "breaks" from being obese.

But, by the time I had VSG I was avoiding the one staircase in my own house.  I was isolating myself from others, avoiding unfamiliar places that I literally might not fit in.  So, SO many negatives.  These memories are my personal black flies and I think of them when deciding if I will have a diet coke or an alcoholic drink.  I have yet to choose an alcoholic drink.  I have yet to have a pretzel :)

I have long wanted to comment that I think it is in many ways harder for those in your age bracket to maneuver the social events, in part because I think that my definition of social events is broader than yours, again, just because of age.   I am 52 and over time life events (kids, other's health, new hobbies) change people's interests so that it is easier to be social without such a focus on food/alcohol.

Plus, at your age, I am not sure that your obesity "black flies" have had a chance to fully develop and mature.  I am assuming that you had the VSG before your body really began to shut down.  (By the way, KUDOS for doing it at your age!  Thank goodness!)

Also, speaking of normies, I find it easier to do social things with them because they aren't focused on what is going into their mouths.  My social events with them are more active in nature and snacks literally take a back seat.  Not that they don't like food, they do.  It just isn't the main event.

I have no answers but I do know that asking the questions is valuable.  Keep posting so I keep learning!

Happy Friday!  I'm still at 113, so all is well despite a few minor transgressions this week. I always feel more at peace when I focus on dense protein so that's what I'm doing again.

Paula I despise 'antiquing' (aka touching other people's garbage) so good on ya for tagging along.  I'd need booze and/or drugs to stick with it.

DH picked up his orthotic yesterday but it's so damn big and thick it's hardly practical. Don't know how people are supposed to be able to wear them unless you buy two sizes and widths of shoes. Sheesh!!

Greetings all

Well I ate a 2500 calorie meal at Burger King and weighed 89 lbs this morning.  APRIL FOOL!!!!

Actually weighed 131 after reasonable eating. Finally found a chai that I like. Not too sweet. Planet Chai, a local product.

Paula glad your kids are working out things. My brothers and I fought like cats and dogs but get along great now as adults.

I have friends who love to go thrift store shopping.  Not me. I hate shopping in general. Except for art supplies and books.

Devon hug them little pups. Can't wait to meet my new girl in another week or so. Gotta spoil the old one some more so she won't be jealous.

I actually ordered some protein drinks so I can up the intake. Seems to help me lose weight.

Caught hubby in the act of smuggling in some Pringles.   Big no no.  Gotta get him moving. There is a new book on hikes in our area that I think I will get.      diane s
