VSG Maintenance Group
March 20 2016. Sunday
Yes, absolutely. If he is getting upward pressure on his esophageal sphincter he is eating too much. My guess is that if he's estimating he eats 1/3 of a pound he doesn't measure and goes by eye. Thus, my suggestion of eating mindfully. I have found that there are some who simply won't measure, so they have to go the mindful route.
But.... I measure dense protein, nuts seeds, etc. by weight and my fruits and vegetables by volume. I don't then just add them together... that would be like adding improper fractions without finding common denominator. If he was talking dense protein, which I assumed he was... For me, the vegetable and/or fruit piece is typically insignificant, and I never log that in MFP by weight.

And therein lies the difference. I have ALWAYS measured and logged everything. Fruit gets weighed and vegetables get measured. Fats get measured and logged, too. I do eyeball a few things now, but early on I did not.
Veggies measured by volume also have weight. At one time I was curious about the role density of veggies played in satiety and that's when I became aware that for me at least density of food plays a huge role in my restriction. Much more so than volume. I can easily eat two cups of salad, but I can't eat a half cup of chicken.
Good morning,
It is my last day in San Diego. The conference just concluded and I have time to kick around town for a few hours.
Steps were >15,000 yesterday.
I have no idea where I will be on the scale tomorrow. Foods were not quite as "simple" as I had planned. Thanks to VSG restriction, not as terrible as it could have been during my most vulnerable moments. For non-grocery store foods, it is very hard to estimate weight and food items in MFP. For grocery store foods, I had a fair amount of turkey and even tho I buy the no-salt added version, it is still probably more salt that I usually have. Many unknowns! I'm telling myself that whatever that scale number it is, it is ok. It was a good few days to practice maintenance. Not a home run for the whole trip but most days were solid doubles or triples.
Off to the zoo,

We do what we can and each trip is a learning experience. I was 6 months out and drove to Long Beach for a show. That show weekend is an eating weekend for Ron. While I ate very little, it wasn't clean eating and I put on 4 or 4 pounds over a three day weekend. The extra weight was shed in just a few days, but it was my first lesson (though at the time, an unheeded lesson) about how my body reacts to off plan not so clean eating. Sounds to me as if you did a pretty darn good job!
Happy Sunday Family-
132's today. Did my mile in the pool, and am about to take a nice long walk. I did expand my work out clothing repertoire a bit while Sadie was being groomed. I'm having trouble with dresses and pants. In dresses, S and 4's are too big, and couldn't find 2s or XS. In pants, lymphedema is in play today. I'm fairly consistently wearing 4's, but they were a bit loose at the waist and snug in the right leg. I'm patient.... I'll find what I like.
Devon... does my improper fraction analogy make any sense ? I just have always measured and logged protein, nuts, seeds etc. by weight, and the minor amounts of vegetables and fruit by volume. There's no way/reason in my mind to then combine the two types of measurements into one, without converting both to weighed amounts or volume units, and I'm happy tracking fruit and veggies by volume and protein by weight.

Yes, completely! Your method makes total sense. Most of the time I follow the same protocol. I just measure fruits by weight (except for berries, which I track by volume). I also have to apologize because my math was off! I was so stuck on the 1/3 of 1/3 pound amount he mentioned that instead of dividing by 3 I divided by 3.33, which is wrong! Total brain fart! So the 1/3 pound is = to 5.33 oz, not 4.8. Either way, at some point once a sleeve is fully mature (18 months post op and beyond) 5.33 oz using a mix of protein and veggies is doable for most sleevers. My capacity is right around 5-6 oz by weight. Having a long sleeve allows me a little more than most, I think.
Happy Sunday everyone!
Spring has sprung and it couldn't be soon enough for me.
I've had a great week. I'm feeling more like myself than I have in months. I ran out 22 km this week and am well on my to 25 km for next week. I didn't weigh myself today because I simply forgot. I know my food and exercise are on the mark so I'll be fine weight wise. I seem to be the most at peace monitoring food and exercise. The scale drives me to distraction and self loathing. I will weigh again but not until next Sunday now. I seem to be able to keep my focus this way. I guess we all work it differently my clothes are fitting great again :-)
Have a great week everyone.
Hugs Lorna
