The Ides of March

Beware the Ides of March Weight Warriors! (Couldn't resist.)

So yesterday was a cluster F*%k of a food day - some planned, some not so much... In the end I'm okay with it... The scale is reflecting my choices today. I am so bloated it's kind of funny. The plus side is that I didn't get up once to pee during the night! LOL! Yup, being a male over 50 I am normally plagued with at least one nightly jaunt to the loo - often times two! So, I'm pounding back the water, my protein is stocked and I am seriously serious about focusing on my next goal.

I had a great session with the shrink yesterday and we discussed my 3 days of off plan eating. I had legitimate reasons for backing off the regimen I had been following and it was nice to have the validation. I am also so pleased that I can accept and understand a veer off my path without beating myself up over it.

Am I loving that the scale can move so quickly up while it takes so long to come down? Um, not so much. But you know, it's my truth. It's the way I've always been and working with my truth is so much more productive than fighting it!

Hello Mighty March Weight Warriors !!!

I had forgotten all about the Ides of March !!!   I almost started this board twice today, but I share the common aversion to initiating simultaneous initial posts. No harm, no foul !!

131's today.  I have an evening buffet tonight and a dinner out on Thursday.  I am using my "scan and select some yummy protein technique" tonight.  My goal is to skip dessert today and make it worth the calories Thursday. One thing that has not returned following my VSG, thank goodness, is a desire for occasional beer.  Carbonation just doesn't sound good at all to me !!  I'll have wine Thursday.

Have a great day all !

Well I posted on Shel's thread but I will blab some more here. Ides of March indeed.  Do other months have "Ides" or is it just March? Hopefully there is no food orgy going on at the studio today in honor of the Ides. Seems there is always some excuse to bring sweets there.   We have pot lucks there a lot and being the lazy cook I am I bring almonds or fancy olives or whatever I can grab at the Coop deli.

Have good Ides all.   diane  s

During the Roman Republic months were divided into three sections - the Nones, the Ides and the Kalends. I don't understand how it worked, but they would count BACKWARDS from those fixed point days in every month. The Nones was the 5th or 7th, the Ides was the 13th or 15th, and the Kalends was the first day of the NEXT month. The Nones and the Ides fell on the differing days of the month depending on the length of each month. Sounds awfully confusing to me, but it's one of those trivia things I know from teaching.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, once Octavius (later Augustus Caesar) came into power that all changed until we finally got the contemporary calendar in 1580 something so the Catholic Church could keep Easter in the spring.

It is the Ides of March.....and my 19th wedding anniversary! Spent the day cleaning out son # 1's bedroom (without consent or knowledge but it has not been cleaned well for years and he is a bit of a hoarder, including food and I don't want any critters taking up homestead with him in there. I've been at it most of the day and still have much more to do. Will probably have an argument over the fact tonight....oh joy!

Also went to our financial planner this morning and out for sushi for lunch. That was good. Hubs teaches tonight so our anniversary celebration meal was at lunchtime.

Scale was at 122.6 today. Had a bad snacking day yesterday (good choices, just too many calories) but so far good today - too busy to snack too much!

Protect your skinny everyone!

Late to the party today and there's been a weird energy with me the entire day. Forgot to weigh and many little things have gone wrong.  Fortunately nothing big, but so many little annoyances. Included in them are two failed batches of yogurt. Yes, two.  One last night and another today. Very odd after the first batch turned out so well.  Hopefully tomorrow will go more smoothly!

Sorry your day is not as it should be!

Curious, how did the yogurt fail? Not culture, so no set up? What did you use for starter?

Just had a thought - is this what 'beware the Ides of March' means???  Lol

Yogurt did not set up at all the first time - ran right through the strainer because it was so thin. Second batch thickened up ever so slightly, but most was lost in strainer again. Used the same type of yogurt starter that had worked so well in my initial batch. The initial batch when I got my IP was very thick!  After my first failed batch from last night I even purchased new yogurt for starter, so I'm really at a loss about what went wrong!

Two thoughts: Are you checking to see that you are getting the milk hot enough (180 F) and then letting it cool to below 115 F????? I know that if the milk is too hot it will kill the bacteria.

Just as I did with my first successful batch, I trusted  the IP to do the heating (that should be correct, shouldn't it?) and used the same thermometer to check cool down for each batch, but will double check with a second thermometer for sure!
