Dear Circle of Skinny,

Like D. Ocean (the more that I think of Diane as the swimmer, the more I just want to call her Ocean), I also seized on Son #1's "Make it til you fake it" as a mantra for today!  I do believe actions can change thoughts.

122.7 this morning, no wrap.  I'll get a fresh one in a couple of hours.  I'm digging my deflated arm.

Happy Friday, it's a race to the weekend, now!

-Shel

PS, get your pet photos ready -- there's going to be a separate post this weekend!

Good Morning!  158.3#...The scale is just one tool we use and can sometimes just be plain nasty.  Trust the process.  It's VERY frustrating when you're eating within your calories/macros and there is no downward progress.  That's when it's time to find another source.  We all know this but the scale seems to be the biggest motivator and mood regulator...lol.

My plan today is to move my body with my trainer, putter around the house and dinner with friends.

Paula, I'm glad you're son is improving.

Hang in there everyone...

Commitment and Compliance

A simple truth that was so elusive for so long!

Hi Everyone!  Scale was down another 1.2 lbs. this morning.  I am obviously pleased about this drop, but do know that the scale flucuates, so am trying to keep it in perspective.  My toxic behavior of projecting keeps trying to get a foothold, and I have had to say out loud to cut it out and keep it in the moment.

Paula, glad things are getting better for your son.  I belonged to OA for many years, and one of their sayings was "act as if", much like "fake it til you make it".  I always equated that saying with recovering, as, if you're at the point that you're able to act as if or fake it, you are getting better and moving from the illness into the recovery.  So your son even being able to say he's at that point, is a positive sign!

Lorna - that blankety blank scale!  It likes to mess with our heads.  For some, weighing daily is a necessity, for others doing so weekly, etc. works.  You know yourself the best.  I am more like Shel with this.  If I don't weigh, I can be in complete denial of where I am.  Also, if I know my eating has been off for a time, fear of what I'll see gets in the way, so I stay clear of the scale.  Either way, it inevitibly results in a gain.  Just my thoughts.

Shel, you wrote something that I wanted to respond to, but it's now eluding me.  Diane, ditto!  What you both contribute is very valuable to me, so please forgive my post-menopausal brain!  :)  I do better responding individually, or taking notes while I read.  I did neither today.

Have a great Friday!

Hugs, Mary

Happy Friday, Maintenance Famly.  My scale is sticking at 113, which is a comfortable place for me.

All the scale talk is interesting and another hurdle most of us have to find a way to make peace with. Personally, I've always found increments of less than a pound unhelpful so I always use only the 'whole' number. I see the smaller increment each day but consider it irrelevant. Never used smaller increments during weight loss either. In early maintenance I tried recording with the increments as well as rounding up or down but it was confusing so I quickly gave it up and again focused solely on the numbers on the left. For me, that's more than enough data to inform my decisions.

I am loving the scale talk today! It is interesting to me to see how the scale movement is perceived by those new to maintenance. Once I got to goal my concern for the tenths digit vanished. I was either this whole # or that whole #. If the scale read 170.8, I was 171. If it read 173.3 I was 173.

Now, that I'm back in WL mode, I feel very much the same, but I made a promise to myself to be accurate and not to let minor scale fluctuations influence my eating. For me acknowledging the tenths of a pound right now is helping me modify my reactive behavior. Other than that the tenths don't serve much purpose.

Yesterday my weight was 196.1. Today it was 196.2. To me that is the same weight. Yes, it's up .1 of a pound, but really, it's the same.

I have some celebrations to share: First, Blue went in for her pregnancy ultra sound yesterday. Being the nervous doggie papa (and being somewhat pessimistic due to past history) I promised myself I would not eat over the results - whatever they were. I am very proud to say I did not eat over the results. When I went and got a coffee after leaving the appointment I spied a whole wheat scone with maple icing and boy it was tempting, but I refrained. My reward, the barista smiled at me and told me the coffee was on the house! Go figure!!!!

Blue has 7 definite pups baking! Maybe one more hiding up near her rib cage! Puppies due March 30-April 1! Yay!!!!

Now Ron, on the other hand, wanted a celebratory dinner even though he's down with a cold. We compromised. We ordered ribs and brisket to pick up and I made a salad. Sneaky Ron, who called in the order, also ordered a side of loaded mashed potatoes. I did have 3 TBS. I did make a choice to eat them and I did not order them, so I'm calling that a non celebratory choice.

Second thing to celebrate: I pulled out a "goal weight" sweater yesterday. It fit beautifully with no pull, stretch or tug anywhere. That is a win. Must try on one of my suit coats to see how much father I have to go to get into something tailored.

Very uplifting day yesterday!

EDIT - Sorry, I guess I hit the wrong reply button!
