Devon, you piqued my curiosity, so I googled the book and found a whole website. There are a number of blog posts by the author. I read a few and they are quite interesting. One in particular made sense, and talks about the connection between carbs, even small amounts and weight gain. The title talks about menopause, but the article is more than that. Here's the link:

G'day fav peeps. Paula, you're still on my mind and I'm holding you in my heart. Diane O. That's jus****er weight making its way through. Your body and your scale are very smart so you can trust both. Carbon, bad days are just that - single days. They mean very little in the grand scheme of things. Awesome losses, Lorna and Devon.
I'm back down to a solid 113 today. I had a 'hungry' day yesterday too due to some emotional distress. Ate more fat and protein so not a real caloric impact. Food choices are very important for those of us who sometimes choos to cope by using food. Those days are still uncomfortable though, but that's life isn't it. We can't be happy - or numb - all the time.

Yesterday, a female co-worker said that I was "bikini ready" which was odd, out of nowhere and ... no I am not. My mother taught me to say thank you, but it was so unexpectedly weird that I said that I have not worn a bikini since I was 4 years old and have no plans to wear one again.
Today while I was fixing my usual lunch, cutting up a fresh sweet pepper and filling it with a packet of flavored tuna, a different co-worker commented to another that I had so much willpower. I told them that this part is easy, because it is so delicious. One of them said she fixed a pepper with tuna for her lunch the other day and agreed that it was delicious. (It is also easy and cheap.)
Tonight, I am surprising my son and taking him out for crab legs. He has been asking to get them for more than a month so he will be very happy.
My current thought about those observations is that they are coming from people who don't have all the negative baggage related to weight that I do. They might have some experience with being merely overweight and being "bikini ready" is actually a phrase they have applied to themselves and I assume their skinny friends. We are now in the circle of skinny!
Anyway, my usual comment back is an honest "there's a scary thought!" I find comments about food choices more annoying, tho, unless it is from my usual circle of work buddies.
Crab legs! mmmm
