Welcome Wendy!  I use only stevia at home, as it's a natural sweetener.  It's harder when out.  I do get Splenda when I buy coffee at D 'n D.  Most sugar free products have Splenda, and I do use them.  Oikos Triple Zero greek yogurt uses stevia, and it's gotten very popular, so I'm hoping other products will start using it.     Mary

Hi and welcome.  I use splenda some but in general don't use many artificial sweeteners. They are in products I use like the occasional protein bar.

Look for Kairk's thread about sugar detox which describes resetting your body and using no sweeteners for awhile - artificial or otherwise. Might help you.  diane s

I use them and probably shouldn't; I also drink coffee and probably shouldn't. I rotate between the types of sweetners I use as well.Using only Stevia for baking. I use them in my coffee, and plain yogurt. I kind of look at I know I'm not ever going to be perfect and if this helps me keep myself in line then so be it.

Hi, and welcome!

I do use Splenda in my yogurt. That is the only time I use any sweetener.

If sugar is an issue for you, I'd recommend you doing a two week reset. That involves going cold turkey on sugar and all sweeteners for two weeks. There is a little more to it, but that is the basic gist. After the two week period you can gradually add back in some sugar or sweeteners in extreme moderation.

The reset is designed to help you regain your natural ability to taste "sweet". We become numb to the sweetness of sugar and sugar substitutes because we "over sugar" our bodies and lose all sensitivity to sweet and therefore require more and more to reach the same dopamine levels. It's a vicious cycle that has nothing to do with willpower or lack thereof. It's actually a physical response that develops over time.

A book that might help you understand sugar and how it works in the body is Fat Chance by Robert Lustig, MD.

Thank you, that sounds like a good idea

Welcome Wendy!  I don't sweeten much of anything but do enjoy Diet Coke sometimes.  I keep Splenda and stevia in the cupboard but they're rarely used. I find stevia to be bitter but I do enjoy Cavalier chocolate which contains stevia.  If I'm having a sweet it usually is sugar based.  I've never gotten into creating 'diet' sweets/desserts for myself - don't really know why.
