Good Friday morning fellow Maintainers!

Scale was at 125.8 today, going up way too fast and time to get a reign on things. I obviously don't need more calories for healing anymore!

Made yogurt in the IP yesterday and it is only okay. I did use fat free milk - that is all we ever drink around here. The consistency is actually fine - the flavor is off a bit. My recipe called for vanilla which I love but it still tasted odd. Do any of you have a favorite recipe for IP yogurt that you love and would like to share?

I think I will try a Walk Away the Pounds DVD for exercise today. First exercise session since I got the gallbladder out. Hope it goes okay. Last day off of work, I return on Monday. I'm ready!

Fun weekend plans anyone? We don't have anything big planned. Regular Friday night out to eat and I think my middle son is have play kids over one of the days to run lines. They are doing Oliver in March.

Hello All!

Paula, 1st of all, look for PM from me regarding PS.  Also, this is what I used to get me started in yogurt making: http://www.hippressurecooking.com/video-how-to-make-yogurt-i n-instant-pot-duo/

I use a strainer that I bought on Amazon to make Greek yogurt.  I have used whole milk twice and 2% twice. The 2% is more watery but putting in strainer for many hours (maybe about 18 hours last time?) generally fixes that.  I am ok with unflavored greek yogurt, but I do add stuff like a bit of frozen fruit and/or peanuts when I am ready to eat a portion.  I don't have experience with flavoring otherwise.  For this morning's batch, I adjusted the time to 9 hours, I'm looking for just a bit more tang. The 8 hours seemed a bit bland although once I add my condiments to it I am very happy.

127.0 this morning.  My lymphedema storm is lightening up.  Last night I started to feel better.  Besides my lymphy-arm, I am also retaining at least some water in my lower legs.  Looking forward to seeing the lymph people later this morning.

Fun for the weekend?  Hard to think 12 hours into the future!  I think I will restart yoga today and I told my daughter that we will go out to breakfast tomorrow morning.  I don't remember when my last breakfast out was --- well over 1.5 years ago.

One disturbing thing that I need to deal with.  My husband has been riding my daughter about her eating habits.  This includes making pig noises when she eats.  She says he does this even when she is drinking water.   Also, apparently he makes comments about "whales" he sees when he is out in public.  That's bad enough on its own but apparently the targets of the comments can hear it.  On one hand, my husband is markedly tone deaf when it comes to understanding other's emotional response to language.  He thinks these comments hilarious.  I have always thought he is a bit Asperger like in a variety of ways which is the only way I can come to terms with some things he says.  On the other hand, I know HE knows some of this stuff stinks because he has never made a "whale" comment in my hearing.  So, he obviously has some awareness.

The huge irony in this that my husband is the person who supplies process carbs, a LOT of processed carbs,  to the household.  How is a 15 year supposed to resist that?  He has been resistant to my ideas of healthier eating.

Thanks for the listen,

Shel

My yogurt was actually very thick and quite tart - I strained it for about an hour. Thanks for the recipe - I'll try yours next time!

Sorry to hear about DH. My husband can be pretty socially awkward (think brainy Professor!) but he never fat (or any other "condition/trait") shames. Hopefully your DH can realize the hurt he can cause your daughter before it is too late. Thankfully, my husband is pretty on-board with healthy eating since he was diagnosed with Type II diabetes several years back....now the teenage sons are a different story!

Breakfast out sounds wonderful. For the last month I have been craving a meal like pancakes or French toast or waffles with syrup - a 100% carb laden meal, no protein. Does anyone ever really do that post WLS? I keep thinking - well for my birthday... but I already have pasta with alfredo sauce and white cake with buttercream frosting as dream birthday indulgences!

Shel I am sorry your hubby is doing that. I feel for you. I just had breakfast with my extended family and sat across from my great nieces father who continually told her she was eating to much etc etc. She is 18 years old. I think those old habits die hard and men think in their own way they are helping. It is so damaging though. Hopefully they both realize it and mend their hearts.

Good morning!

Things are going more smoothly.  Weight was the same this morning.  I ate too many calories yesterday, so need to tone that down.  However, I feel like my eating is getting back on course.  I ate lunch out with my husband, older daughter and her boyfriend at Chipotle.  What I get has no refined carbs, but calories are way too high.  Today, my lunch plan is much simpler.  It feels good to not be losing control as I had been doing.  I feel much more balanced.  Am also working on getting the motivation to go back to the gym.  All in all, I am feeling much more hopeful than I have in some time.

Paula, I made yogurt once, many moons ago, so have no tips.  I do like Oikos Triple Zero greek yogurt, made with stevia.  They've expanded the flavors, so there are several to choose from now.

Shel, glad you're on the mend!  The family dynamics are always difficult.  I feel for you there.

Have a great Friday all!

Mary

158.4 this morning.  So down slightly.  I'm going to now start trusting this is my weight and try to gear up to lose again!

Layoffs are over.  I think everyone is relieved.  But it is sad.  No one was happy about it.  But at least everyone knows and can move forward.

We are experiencing beautiful weather right now.  Mid-70's today, near-80 tomorrow.  Haven't decided on what to do tonight.  I kind of want to go to a favorite patio restaurant and get some fish and chardonnay.  But I will defer to my husband after his hard week.  Maybe a movie or a comedy club.
