Happy Valentine's Day! (and it is Sunday)

Happy Valentine's Day!

On that subject, I have been thinking about something to remind me to protect my skinny.  I might shop Valentine's day sales for bracelets.  Even if it has a bit of a heart theme, I think it can be a symbol of self love, something that was too frequently lacking in recent years.

My other thought of the day: finding neutral.  My yoga teaches tosses around the phrase "finding neutral" when she wants me to tuck up my pelvis, stand up straight and pull my shoulders away from my ears.   What she considers neutral initially felt like contortions. It now feels more natural tho not automatic.  I feel like the VSG process is helping me find my version of food/body neutrality.

Today, I took hip/waist/chest measurements, something I have never done in the past. The anxiety/self loathing I would have felt pre-VSG was replaced with curiosity.  I'm just collecting data to provide context to the number on the scale.  It felt neutral.  Much like the confidence I feel looking at a steakhouse menu knowing I will be successful.

I see neutrality when those of you further out consider the number on the scale and what, if any, action you will take.  Thanks for being such great role models!

126.3 today.  Yoga this morning, of course.

Have a great day everyone.  Enjoy the people you love, including yourself!

Shel

I wish!  Mostly, I was worried that my too-long post would cause us to end up with two Valentine's day postings.  Can't have that! I could FEEL you (and maybe Diane O) out there!

122.6 today. Still just a bit below my lower red line. I actually ate over 1,800 calories yesterday. That ice cream was yummy! First day of not having to use pain pills. Still not moving much and I needed to take a nap in the afternoon but am improving each day now!

Church and then out for sushi if I can convince my husband...might be hard though as he is not a sushi eater! Calories will be more on track today!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Glad you are feeling better!!!!  Amazing about the calories.  Maybe some sort of post surgical metabolism surge?  I see people talk about that on plastic surgery forums but I don't know if it is a real effect.

We have always educated our post open heart surgery patients that they need to eat more calories for healing post op. I just did a quick search and the consensus was to eat 15-20 calories per pound during healing - that would put me over 1,800 calories even on the low end. Of course as I've said before I do not have "normal" metabolism so that may not hold 100% true for me. Here was one article on that https://www.hss.edu/files/Nutrition_for_Healing.pdf

It probably isn't a sign of a healthy mind when I find myself thinking that I want some surgery just for increase in calories!   Thanks for the link.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

159 on the scale today.  What a change from a week ago.

I wasn't sure if I would feel up to dinner last night.  But we went and split a filet and it was excellent.

Today I'm just trying to take advantage of my last day of rest.  I still have quite a bad cough but I need to be 100% tomorrow.

Happy Valentine's Day All !

Shel ..what a great insight..using this opportunity to reflect on the importance of self love. I like the "finding neutral" idea too. Paula and BB... Sounds like you are gearing up for great days too.

I am 136.8 today ! Thrilled and grateful to have my edema under control !! As I was "stuck" at 141, and dropping clothes sizes, I'm glad I recognized that I was working my plan, and there had to be another force at play. All of the swimming and exercise were part of the fluid build up because of vascular damage after a compound fracture and accompanying DVT 30 years ago. My valves in my right leg are just worn out. I had been on Lasix on an off for 30 years, and had to stop for my VSG surgery. I am eating 1050-1150 calories a day, and need to see what my actual weight stabilizes at, before adding more calories back in and reassessing my goal range. I know I need to leave some latitude for water retention fluctuations, but too much wiggle room is not good for me either.

I kind of like weighing the amount of weight I lost !! Feels balanced !!

Age: 64; 5' 5"; High weight: 345; Start weight: 271 (01/05/15); Surgery weight: 218 (05/27/15); Pre-Op (-53); M 1 (-18); M 2 (-1.5); M 3 (-13.5 ); M 4 (-13); M 5 (- 8); M 6 (-12) M 7 (-5, Xmas); M 8 (- 9) Under surgeon's goal and REACHED HEALTHY BMI 12/07/15!! (Six months and one week.) AT GOAL month 8. Maintaining at goal range (139- 144) ~ four (4) years !!

Shel - LOL that is funny - thinking about have surgery to have more calories - wow we think alike!  LOL

I am grateful for your insight today it has given me alot to think about - finding my neutral, what a great thought and self love. Yesterday I was no kind to myself at all, and I don't know why, I didn't eat over it but I was horrible to me. Today will be better.

Diane - glad your edemia is settling out and Paula I'm happy you are finally out of pain.

Brownblonde - you are doing good - glad you are feeling better to; enjoy your last day off.

No scale today - I forgot about it; I got up and was busy right out of bed preparing meals for next week and had my breakfast and coffee before I remembered. I guess in a way maybe it was good, because I was not focused on weight and food consumption or was it avoidance - I don't know, I know I didn't have anything to avoid over but who knows how the mind works. Thanks to you all I'm starting to figure it out, little bit by little bit.

Now that I am finished my work for the day and I am going to spend some time with my bible, and medidation and give myself a good start to the rest of my week.

Have a great day everyone. Hugs Lorna
