How much protein was recommended daily (especially in maintenance)? Protein recs?
Just a real quick poll of what your surgeon's recommendations for protein are. Do you distinguish between protein intake for maintenance versus weightloss? I'm far out from surgery and have been in maintenance but want to kick up my weightloss again. But of course I can eat more than those early out.
Also, do any of you supplement your protein intake with shakes or bars or other protein packaged foods? Whey protein gives my stomach terrible abdominal cramps--any recommendations for protein kind to the tummy? thanks
My weight loss protein requirements were 64 grams daily - my surgeon wants us to continue with protein shakes 2-3 times daily. My NUT recommends maintenance protein to be about 25% of my total calories, so for me at 1,400 calories, that would be about 88 grams of protein daily. I strive for higher protein then that - closer to 30-35%.
Have you tried soy for protein? Maybe that would work better then whey for you.
really? 2-3 shakes per day? Maybe these are small shakes? I know ones that I use (Premier protein and unjury) have a lot of protein (20-30g) per recommended serving so if I did 3 of those then all of my protein would be coming from shakes!

80 grams for initial weight loss phase, 100+ grams for maintenance, 80-100 grams when I need to drop a few. I usually need to sopplement with protein powder, shakes and /or bars to hit those goals.

My clinic didn't change my protein goals with maintenance. I think they base that at on lab work so if labs look good they don't see a need to change. I do see my NUT in a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to seeing if she has anything new to say.
In general, they would prefer that protein comes from regular food rather than shakes or bars. That happens to fit me to a T. While I recognize the sheer utility of protein drinks/powders/bars, I would very much prefer to eat food. Good luck finding something that you feel ok with!
