Good Morning, My VSG Friends...I'm up early drinking coffee and waiting on my parents to get here so we can be on our way.  I love that my parents are close enough that we can see them often.  It's going to be a gteat day!

Anyone ever heard of Freddy's Custard? After our Sushi dinner last night our friends suggested we go.  My husband jumped at the chance!   We went and I did not have even one bite of custard!!!  I enjoyed my drink, the company and I survived.  I came home and had cottage cheese and blueberries.  I felt so good about it.  And, I really didn't feel deprived.  There was lots of self-talk in my head and on the way there with my husband about the reasons why I didn't want to eat the custard tonight.  It's a bazillion calories and not worth it...the stats are insane!!!!  Anyway, I hope it sets my weekend up for success.  Today is manageable.  Tomr will be a little more difficult.

Knee feels a little better today...yay!!!

Have a great weekend!!!!  Anyone hear from Paula?

Good morning peeps!

Paula posted late yesterday in the Friday thread.  All as good (if sore.)  I was tickled to see her casually liking and commenting as if surgery is no big deal.

I have never heard of Freddy's Custard!  Good for you for recognizing what you REALLY want, plus appreciating your simple pleasure of cottage cheese and blueberries.  I am going to pick up cottage cheese today.

This weekend I have two big thinks happening:

  • Need to find a decaf coffee that I like.  I LOVE a hot drink, in particular coffee and sometimes tea, as something that satisfies my impulse to put something in my mouth when stressed at work.  But, my sleep duration is getting shorter and shorter and have to face the music that the increase in coffee likely has something to do with it.  That, or I have developed a new diagnosis of mania which would be interesting!
  • I am trying to find peace and patience with whatever my maintenance number turns out to be.  I must accept that it is going to be a while before I know.  I must accept that per dexa, I do NOT need to lose fat.  So, as I deliberately work with the personal trainer on strength, my weight might (will, according to him) go up because of eventual increased muscle and that is ok.  Also, as my muscles are worked harder and harder, I think that affects water retention which is NOT FAT.

126.2 today.  Stable and strong! (peace and patience, peace and patience)  Yoga this morning, there is a new 7:30AM saturday class that I am psyched about!

Enjoy your weekend!  Thank you so much for the robust conversation and sharing your successes and challenges.

Shel

Good Morning !

Great job on the dessert choice, Stephanie ! Your journey to "happy weight" continues !

Shel I fully support your attitude about your final target. We are working on strong and healthy. Building muscle does retain more water. I often wonder how much water weight is attributed to our lymphedema. I never started my Lasik back up after VSG, and am rethinking that, as the increased activity and standing desk are impacting the size of my leg. We'll find our "scale Zen".

Paula... so totally you to be posting and "liking" as though you had had a normal day. Hope you rested well and today brings the first full day of a speedy recovery.

Lorna..safe travels home from Cuba. Enjoy the warmth and sun, and look forward to having your routine back.

     Diane... Happy anniversary !

Linda... your weight is where you want it, your personal challenge is revolving... great place to mindfully soak in !!

Brownblonde...have a great time in the big easy ! Your openness to "puzzling through" your challenges is certainly helping me, as is the advise and support you are getting.

Kairk F...your faculty room victory was amazing ! I liked your ...when you choose to eat trigger food, your control may be forfeited to a hormonal response... now there's a tattoo !

I took some notes... please forgive me if I left anyone out. Everyone here is important and contributes more than I can ever express.

Weight exactly the same today. I enjoyed a glass of wine before dinner, and wasn't tempted by the fried rice or fried ice cream. I did chose to have half of a chocolate cupcake, aware that I would have to fight the sugar/carb monster off for a few days.

Have a great day all !

The person who did my dexa could clearly see my edema.....from memory, she estimated about 3/4 lb, I think.  But, as you know, it moves around and I imagine that you have even more potential weight since yours is in your leg.  My arm has been worse lately, maybe because of increased arm use from exercise, maybe from a small cut on a finger or maybe just the moon.....I never really know.  I really need to get back to the lymphedema people but dred the initial re-referral, setting up appts, etc.   I never did complete the first round of treatment!

Ok, I don't know what is Lasik is in terms of lymphedema.  I'll have to google it!

I am one big Owie today. Not staying in the hospital getting IV morphine for pain makes a difference. So does trying to get in and out of a regular bed after abdominal surgery. I told them I didn't need pain pills, I really never do after I get home from surgeries. Wrong! Thankfully I have some left over from tooth extraction a few years ago and if I run out of that I still have some liquid oxy from the VSG, that stuff tastes horrid. Not only does the belly hurt but my butt does too. Not enough padding anymore and my tailbone is killing me. Going to have hubby get me a cocyx pillow.

Man, I'm just a ray of sunshine this morning, eh?

Sounds like many victories all around, happy for all of you!

No scale today, legs are wrapped in bandages from getting hopefully the last of the veins out.

Hi all, down to 129 - always a pleasure to see a downward.  Well my ideal weight is supposedly 125. But a friend was telling me i looked like i had lost more weight. ??!!  She is a teenie tiny thing, shorter than me, but she told me she weighs 129.So how we look and feel is as important as the scale.  And no, I am not rationalizing my 4 pounds. Still want them gone but its not a tragedy.

Paula, sorry you are hurting.  Any surgery beats you up a little. My own policy is to never refuse pain drugs. Hope you get some relief.

Well the next food event is the super bowl. We really don't care about pro football but will have a guest over and make fun of it and also check in on the far cuter puppy bowl. Will make a pot of black eyed peas with veggies and a bit of ham.  We will have no dessert.  Our guest is a seemingly naturally thin person but she avoids sugar.  Its not just us.

No Freddy Custard here, thankfully.

Saw a bumper sticker yesterday that said "Don't change how you look, change how you think". Had a sketch of a zaftig woman.   Interesting thought.  We should all spend some time just thinking of ourselves and healthy, glowing, attractive and fortunate.  If we keep thinking that way we become it.     diane s

Scale down another smidgeon to 201.6. I'll take it. Was actually hoping for a little more of a drop, but like I said I can only control what I put in my mouth. The old body needs to do the rest. I was lying in bed thinking that I would not meet my under 200 goal by the 15th if this keeps up and had to remind myself that was just the old tape trying to sneak back in. It will be what it will be. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and refine as needed. Right now, I don't need to refine. I need to have some faith in my process.

Paula, glad you're home and all went well. Sorry about the pain and lack of meds. Perhaps if you call, you can still get an RX, if what you have on hand isn't doing the trick. Like I said, GB was far worse for me than VSG.

Off to dog training with Blue. Fun times!
