VSG Maintenance Group
Monday, February 1st
But I'm not hungry after school either lately! I do HAVE to have that evening yogurt (even when I could probably skip it, but it's mental), but otherwise most of the time the past few days super reduced hunger. I'm really wondering if it IS the lowered carb level. So far today I've eaten 9 carbs and school is out. Hey, I'll keep the carbs super low this week and see if it continues or if this is just an anomaly. My own science experiment!
Hi all, we did a good walk with the dogs yesterday and I am rewarded by being up a half. Oh well, it was still good. Today is sunny and calm so Kairk, thanks for the kick in the pants. I need it.
Good for you shel for sticking with us. I know at my heaviest I never weighed and closed my eyes at the doctor and told them not to tell me. While we need to not get emotional about the scale, it is an important tool to check in on a regular basis. My surgeon thinks its more important in maintenance to weigh daily than during weight loss.
Kiln unloads today so always fun to see everyone's goodies.
Well my fit bit sent me an annual report showing that I take more steps than the average american. Thats pretty interesting since half the time I don't wear the fit but and it misses many of my steps. Shows how pathetic the average american it.
Can't wait to see the Iowa caucus results tonight. We are sort of news/politics junkies which I see as a sign of old age.
Hang in there everybody. diane s
I am going to start posting here more often. I've strayed. But I don't really feel like I've strayed.
I don't know what happened. I still feel like I'm not eating that much. That I should be maintaining easily, maybe even losing. I feel like I have to fight tooth-and-nail to get a -0.2lb. loss, only to gain it back by 1-2lbs. with the slightest slip-up. But then, when I'm honest with myfitnesspal, my calories are higher than I expected. Often 1400-1600 on a normal day. Let alone a weekend. I just don't get it. It never seemed this hard before. This feels like pre-VSG.
For example, this weekend--one of my "bad" days eating out with family.
Breakfast:
split panera asiago breakfast sandwich with my sister
coffee
Lunch:
jalapeno roast beef slider from arby's
couple of my husband's curly fries
Snack:
reduced fat cheese stick and a pickle
Dinner:
alcoholic lemonade
1 1/2 shredded brisket tacos (corn tortillas).
I don't feel like that's a banner day. But there again, I don't feel like I should be gaining weight either! And yet today the scale was maybe the highest it's been since all of this: 162.8. That's 10 lbs. higher than my maintenance weight :( I know it doesn't matter whether I feel it's fair or not or whether I feel like that was cheating. i just wish I could get it through my head that it is so maybe I'ls top doing it and stop gaining!
Onward and upward.
Today
B: 1/2 everything bagel, poached egg, coffee
S: sliced apple, rd string cheese
L: 5 chicken meatballs, green giant individual frozen italian veggies
S: P3 grilled chicken with barbecue snack pack
D: Asian tilapia, tiny bit steamed rice, sesame-ginger broccoli salad.
I need to go to the gym today. I need to start doing that. But I really hate it. And I know I should talk myself up about it, but I'm so afraid about coming to rely on something I can never commit to for life. I can go to the gym to lose weight. But I don't see doing it forever. My sister refuses to go to the gym for this reason. She only walks. Because she doesn't want to spend time doing something she hates, and she thinks she can always incorporate walking into her schedule. I want to be a gym person. But I'm so tired in the morning and so tired after work. Excuses, excuses. Does anyone truly feel more energy after the gym? Speaking of which, I've always felt more sluggish in some ways ever since WLS. I think it's about time to have another blood panel done. Anyone else experience this? I would've thought dropping the weight would make me feel less tired. But no. Or maybe it's the allergens out.
I am going to agree with your sister. Weight loss is 99% what you eat and 1% other (exercise, hormones, water retention, etc...) Many people pst WLS lose weight successfully without exercise. That said, you have to look at your food intake.
At the risk of sound like a militant carb counter (which I am generally not) your daily plan, especially the weekend, looks high in refined carbs to me. I could be mistaken, though. Only you know for sure. If you are at all carb sensitive, this may affect your weight.
Here are the stats on your weekend breakfast sandwich:
- 620Calories
- 28gTotal Fat
- 1300mgSodium
- 56gTotal Carb
- 2gFiber
- 21gProtein
If you at half that's a pretty hefty calorie load not to mention the carb load. The fat content is fairly high, too. This is something to think about.
My suggestion is to limit refined carbs and sugars. Eat lean, green, and clean. Count your calories diligently, monitor protein and carbs, too and I think you'll be surprised how easily the weight comes off. I have found it's only a fight when I try to rationalize my eating (whether consciously or subconsciously). When I stick to lean, green, and clean the weight comes off pretty quickly.
Best wishes. You're in the right place for support! Keep posting.
Yes I agree. While I only ate half of the sandwich, it's not as much bang for my calorie buck. I used to be able to just eat small portions of anything. Now, even though I continue to eat half, it's just not cutting it any more. :( Boo hiss. but might as well give lean, green, and clean a try. If there's one thing I DO know, it's that what I'm doing currently isn't working, at least not any more.
