One step at a time. Please don't beat yourself up. You just said you have stopped getting up and eating during the night. That is a huge success. Bite this off one piece at a time and focus on your wins. You can and will get this back, but you gotta love yourself through it. Hugs, I know how hard this is but we are winning one step at a time.

Carbon, I feel for you. It's so damn depressing when we're feeling out of control. I can struggle at night too. And there's no easy answer either. For what it's worth, a couple of things that help me with that are ensuring I eat more calories during the day (no excuse for junk eating and I'm not hungry) and putting a hard timeline around taking in food. For me that's 8 pm. I find having that hard rule very helpful because I can't bull**** my way into snacks. If I'm 'hungry' I drink fluids instead.

Also, thinking on my own struggles of late, it might be worth a visit to your doctor. At least for me, low mood can make the mountains seem higher to cross. Might be worth at least getting your labs done. Also, have you ever used any CBT techniques?  There is lots of info out there on that and it's very effective for helping those of us with food issues.

I agree with Lorna Carbon, don't beat yourself up. Acknowledge the are3as you need to work on and come up with a plan like you already have with not eating during the night. I also like Linda's idea about having a time in the evening that is the cut-off for food intake. Even though I'm not a big night eater, I think I may incorporate that myself as last night I was feeling "hungry" and had popcorn when I probably would have been satisfied with just a drink!

Aw, Carbon, I'm sorry. I get it. I understand your frustration. Please remember, it is not a personal failing on your part. There is so much at play here that is going into your choices - you know it's far more intricate than simple will power! Don't fall into the trap of blaming yourself and beating yourself up over it. It's not worth it - you'll do more damage than good from that type of behavior. And remember, too, struggles are a NORMAL part of this journey.

I am going to suggest something quite opposite from what Linda suggested. I would like you to consider adding a meal or planned snack to eat late at night. Give yourself permission to eat in the evening, if that is something that you like to do and it has value. I HAVE to plan in an evening snack. END. OF. SUBJECT! It's what I need to not feel deprived. Yes, I plan a healthy snack - it really is just a substitute for ice cream to be honest! It's Greek Yogurt with 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries, 1/4 cup fresh raspberries (when I can get them) and 2 tsp of chopped pecans. Then I put a nice squirt of homemade whipped cream on it and I'm good to go. Sure it's a 200 calorie snack, but I have it to look forward to in the later evening and it keeps me sane.

(In case you're wondering about late night eating and weight gain, there are recent studies that show eating at night before bed does not influence weight. It's about the number of total calories. Kris Gunners talks about this on his site, authoritynutrtion.com

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it is the fit for you. I know we are all here to support in any way we can!

Hi all, as the saying goes "when it rains it pours". Its pouring rain here and I am up a pound and feeling bad about it.  my own fault for being way to sedentary.  Today's activity is a scrabble party so its more sitting and pot luck nibbling.  We are supposed to get 5 inches of rain so some areas will flood.

Carbon I feel your pain but hang in there.  Late night eating is a tough habit to break. You might try having an approved list of items to eat such as a glass of skim milk, a small apple or some healthy things.  Must be hard when you have a family and have to keep tempting foods around.

Well, better get prepared for scrabble. These players are killer good.   diane s.

The weather here is downright balmy compared to the rest of the continent! It is over cast and breezy with intermittent drizzle, but it's almost warm feeling. It's 61 degrees! I have the door open for the dogs to come in and out and the heat is turned off. I give you permission to hate me!

Weight was up another pound today. I'm not surprised. I'm am all kinds of sore today - my glutes and hamstrings are quite sore, as are my deltoids, pecs, lats, and upper abs. I also ate a little more than I needed to last night at dinner. We went out to Outback. I had steak, salad, and a little bread. But I nibbled at home before dinner. I think being so tired gets me into a grazing mode - you know, the I want energy now feeling. At least I ate no crap. Just a few too many healthy calories and probably a little too much salt.

Didn't sleep enough, got up early and trimmed a dog, but now I'm going to have a relaxing rest of the day! Looking forward to a wonderfully lazy morning tomorrow - no school for MLK Jr. holiday.
