11-ways-to-lose-weight-without-diet-or-exercise/
This is a link to an article about easy tips for weight loss. Most of it is Weight Loss 101, but I found it to be a good reminder of habits on which I need to focus (like eating more slowly and away from electronic distractions!). Some info, like the red plate, was new to me. Also, it mentions ways to strategically use water intake to curb eating amounts. I figure anything to help us sail in to a successful 2016 is worth sharing!
Oprah- I've been seeing a lot of Weigh****chers commercials this week featuring Oprah. (Now that Oprah owns a 10% share of Weigh****chers that's not too surprising.) The commercials make me feel sad for Oprah. Here she is once again looking at a diet. You'd think with her plentiful financial resources, high intelligence, and reporter instinct that she would have discovered the medical research on obesity and what methods of dealing with obesity are most effective for long term weight maintenance. (I'm talking obesity here, not a few pounds overweight.)
So, while I wish her the best, I feel for the people who will follow her on Weigh****chers thinking that because this is what Oprah has chosen (this time) it must be the right way to go. For most WW will be another failed attempt because WW really is in the business of selling product, not weight loss.
Am I jaded?
I completely agree! I just want to take her aside and say, "Honey, just get the damn surgery! You've got all the other tools in place."
I'm betting she's bought into the theory that surgery is the "easy way" out or cheating in some way. Or that it would let her fans down - I don't know. It just galls me that she's bought into the "this year will be different" mentality. No it won't - she'll lose the weight successfully (like we all did dozens of times) and then she'll gain it back. Like all of us did, every single time.
I also don't like it that she says she wants 2016 to be the year of her "best body". Seriously? She's had several years with a pretty fit, toned and healthy body and she's not going to get that fit/toned/40-something figure back when she's pushing 60. Just isn't gonna happen.
I agree with all of you. I always felt that Oprah was more knowledgeable about issues with food and weight. I have never been successful with Weigh****chers, though I know some have and I good for them! For me, each time I'd join, or even just try to follow the plan that someone gave me, I would immediately go into self-sabotage mode and end up gaining more weight.
I'm surprised at the red plate thing because I've always understood red to stimulate appetite. Hence its use in dining rooms. Who knew?
Regarding Oprah, it's really hard to understand her thinking on this, beyond endless self promotion and making a few more millions. What this had to do with with resolving her weight issues, I have no idea. Sad to see her set up for future embarrassment again, but she's a highly informed person who is making the choices she wants to make.
