VSG Maintenance Group
6 years post-op and time to get serious again about my food intake
hi everyone!!! someone advised that i join this group for advice and support. i am 6 years post-op and i would say that i have about 30 lbs to lose. over the last year i have gained more weight and its something that i thought would never happen to me again.
i have been working on so many other facets of my life and now its time to focus on getting this back in control and pay attention to my health. has anyone had to do this in the past and how did you get started? do you have any advice?
thank you so much for your help!
Hey Kaapuni welcome! I think it was me who suggested you join us when I responded to a post you made on the general discussion forum. Glad you took me up on that.
Although small, this group is especially interesting to be part of right now because we have folks at all ends of the spectrum, including people who are successfully fighting their way back from regain. Also, people are respectfully honest and forthright, which is a rare online experience.
Looking forward to you sharing your journey back to goal weight with us, while we share our journies with you.

Welcom kaapuni! Glad you've joined us. I am struggling as well. As I wrote on my daily post, something that has helped in the past is to go back and re-read things I wrote before and after surgery, as it helped me to remember what life was like pre and post surgery. I'll look forward to hearing more from you!

Hey there!
I'm leading a life that has me on the road back to goal from regain. There are so many different places to start back on the path to getting back to goal. It's hard to say what will work for you. It took me approximately 6 months of working with a counselor and nutritionist who both specialize in working with patients with disordered eating to finally find what would work to get me back on track. For me there was a lot of trial and error and experimentation. I can honestly say that I believe there were two key factors in my eventual success getting back on track: Abandoning the diet mentality and not only acknowledging my issue with sugar, but accepting it and being okay with it. So now instead of being resentful of my sugar issues, or wishing I didn't have food issues, I embrace them as part of who I am and am learning to live with those issues in a positive way. So far so good, too. I have ups and downs, but I'm down 23 pounds since August and that's a start. I have about 18 to go to get where I want to be and then about 5 more to give me some wiggle room. It's happening - slowly, but it's happening.
Kaapuni,
Welcome ! You'll be glad you made your way here ! I think all of us, to some degree, are working to balance ourselves as we come through this challenging time of year.
