Good Morning All-

I weighed in and confirmed what too much cheese, sugar, and not enough water do to my weight. I am where I am and I am focusing on what I learned and moving forward:

1  I choose to shift back into weight loss mode (750-800 calories****il I am 2-3 pounds from my revised lower red line.

2  Dense protein first... work that pyloric valve... enough said.

3. Water consumption is even more important when carb levels are higher than normal.

4. I need to work on tasting/savoring in smaller quantities.... mindful inclusion of atypical foods.

5. "Eating season" from Halloween through Valentine's Day is an extinguished old tape. Celebrate ! now, let's replace the use of the term at all with year round mindful eating.

6.  I choose to adjust my upper red line, goal range, and lower red line, all ~5 pounds lower.

         Upper red line:   145

         Target range:     136-141

         Lower red line:   132

Learn and move on !!  I'm eager to hear from everyone !

Diane

Morning everyone.  It is Boxing Day here in Canada and a national public holiday.  British based, this is the day ( long ago ) when the Lords and ladies of the manor ( think Downton Abby )would box up food to take to the people who lived in surrounding villages and in the main worked on the estate. Enough history already!!

but in 2015 it generally is the time to eat leftovers, get outside to play weather permitting, and travel back to home if visiting.

Good for you Ocean!!

it was a great food day, not enough water, no exercise whatsoever, and excellent company.  Phone calls from othe family members who are scattered world wide.  Am very grateful.

Boxing Day sales start although the stores have been shilling them since before Christmas.  And the grocery stores will be packed because as we know being closed  for one whole day means that our pantries are bare.

Enjoy Saturday!!!

Scale is at 125 - right on my lower red line. I like numbers ending in zero or 5 for my weight so I am happy with that!

Day was pretty much on-plan. Carbs a little high. I really wanted some rhubarb crisp but entered it into MFP (and took out a planned protein shake) and didn't like the numbers so I stuck with the original plan. Perhaps I will plan for it today! Mindful eating! Will go out for su****onight - yum!

I hit the treadmill again yesterday, feels good to get moving again! Not sure what I will do today for exercise - but I WILL do something!

Good morning!

Whew! I felt triggered most of yesterday and feel lucky to have made it thru.  I can't say that I ate perfectly on plan: a few more carbs for the day than I am used to (but very few bad carbs) and worse, I was really under my protein goal which is unusual.  Scale is stable.  I got in a yoga practice but I think my steps were the lowest ever.

Eating at other's is such a struggle for my brain.  I hate the loss of control because I don't know what kind of beef was used to make the chili.  I know that when things get grey, my disordered side can rationalize anything, always to my detriment.  On the other hand, the chili and company were excellent!  I look forward to learning to dance in the grey as the months/years pass.

All in all, I think my eating is in better control than the house which is positively littered.

Diane, it sounds like yesterday was just a data collection day.  No worries!  Paula, it isn't easy to pass up on rhubarb crisp! But, there is always one popping out of an oven somewhere so there will be other opportunities.

Thank you so much for sharing your stories!

Shel

I try to not fret too much about the ingredients when I am eating at other's houses. In the big scheme of things - what is the real difference of 80/20 ground beef vs. 93/7 in one bowl of chili? I do hate to see the fat swimming in other's sloppy Joe's etc though and hear ya on the loss of control issue! Don't people know about rinsing meat under ho****er in a colander? Been doing that for 30 + years!

I actually made the rhubarb crisp a few weeks ago - and the leftovers are frozen in perfect sized 1/2 C servings. Just need to be nuked whenever I have extra calories/carbs to spare and feel so inclined!

greetings fellow former foodies

Well made it through christmas without any major disasters - at least according to scale. 129.5 which is too high but where i was before. I was the victim of my own chicken liver pate which i managed to avoid before dinner but ate while we opened gifts afterwards. I make the stuff for others as christmas gifts and its sort of a tradition. oh well, no more until next year.

We have such a lovely group of friends for holidays. Such a treat because there is no family baggage or bickering. Dinner was good quality ham plus assorted veggie dishes. I skipped the scalloped potatoes. not even tempted - I could tell they were made from a  box.  And no leftovers.

Oh, I'm still a foodie! There is nothing former about it! LOL! IT's just that now 95% of the time I'm being a healthy foodie! Yesterday represents the other 5%! LOL!

Good morning! Happy St. Stephen's Day, Happy Boxing Day, Happy After Christmas Sale Day!

I am retaining so much water my fingers are tight when I bend them.

My day went pretty much as planned: shake for early breakfast, then brunch (1 egg, 1 piece of bacon, 2 oz baked potato hash brown - hash brown was not planned for, but fit in the day's plan). I also ate one freshly freshly baked Muffin Tin Cinnamon Doughnut. Lunch was left over chicken burrito and eaten way too late (I was busy ripping all the components out of the media cabinet and getting oh so frustrated! By the time I realized I was overly hungry it was 5:00 pm!!!!!). Usually I eat only the inside of the burrito and chuck the tortilla. Yesterday I ate the tortilla. Dinner was great - chicken breast marsala, fresh roasted veggies, and a couple of bites of pasta and a few bites of Ron's dessert. I also had a dinner roll.

Overall, my carbs were far higher than usual.

We had my brother and some friends over to play games after dinner. (We played Cards Against Humanity - horribly politically incorrect game that had tears rolling down my face on several occasions - and remember I don't drink so I was stone cold sober and laughing that hard!) One of our friends brought samplers of gourmet candies and chocolates from a shop in SF. I nibbled mindlessly during the game. I suddenly realized the monster was out in full force. I ate too many little candies during the game. We played until 1:30 am and lord only knows how many extra crap calories I ate. Everyone left by about 1:40.

Then the absolute best happened! The Last Supper Mentality came to visit me. It said, "Devon, tomorrow you must get back on track. If you want another Muffin Tin Doughnut, better eat that now. Also, remember, Jeff and Karen gave you that pint of Butter Brickle yesterday. Maybe you should have some of that, too, because tomorrow you'll be back on track." So, damned if I didn't eat a muffin and a small monkey dish of the ice cream.

But it's one day. Actually, it was only about 3 hours. I woke up this morning with a sugar hangover, which will have to get knocked out with lots of water, clean eating and time at the gym.

The reason I wrote all this out is because I want to share just who I am. There is part of me who wants to be upset/ashamed/guilty about this type of behavior. In all honesty, when I look deeply at my truth, I love having days where I can eat with abandon and not give a **** about carbs and calories and protein. I really do enjoy eating chocolate and cookies and pastries and ice cream. I wish that I was able to enjoy these things without unleashing the beast of reckless abandon, but that reaction is part of who I am. That reaction is what I have to deal with sometimes.

What I also now know is that I have the strength to stop the one day free for all at one day. Sure the detox may be a little tough today, but it's what I signed up for and I can handle it. Yes, the weight will take the next several days to go away - maybe even a week. In the end, I had a lovely day with my partner, my family and friends, and frankly, my transgressions aren't worth getting upset over. This change in attitude is probably by far the best gift I've been given this past year.

Scale showed I was up a whopping 3 pounds this morning. So be it!

you are right to not beat yourself over the head due to the "last supper".  just move forward.  I had my way with chicken liver pate and great wine.  diane

I had forgotten about St. Stephen's Day. Thanks for the reminder.

Kairk - love your honesty.  Truly.

I was alright this morning until a cheesecake called my name from deep in the fridge.   Had  piece ( being honest.... a LARGE piece )

It was delicious although I didn't really taste the last five mouthfuls, just wolfed it down.

But it stops.  NOW.  Drinking water like a mad person and heading out for a walk.  Thank heavens there are a lot of trees on the way.
