Somehow I missed your reply. I hate to ignore the new kid :)
I am 52, I think I hit healthy bmi range at 11ish months? Whenever it was, I was freakin amazed. I NEVER dreamed that I would get there in that sort of time range. I haven't officially called goal yet but I'm within 2-3 pounds.
VSG seemed to be the exact right surgery for me, a volume eater.
I'm looking forward to figuring out maintenance with you...because we ARE going to figure it out, right?
PS edited to note that I lost 55 lbs in lead up to surgery and that 231 includes that 55 lbs.

Working into maintenance is new for me too. There is a lot of knowledge and experience here. I encourage you to read back through this site, and you'll get a real sense of how successful maintainers keep their heads in the game long term.
Age: 64; 5' 5"; High weight: 345; Start weight: 271 (01/05/15); Surgery weight: 218 (05/27/15); Pre-Op (-53); M 1 (-18); M 2 (-1.5); M 3 (-13.5 ); M 4 (-13); M 5 (- 8); M 6 (-12) M 7 (-5, Xmas); M 8 (- 9) Under surgeon's goal and REACHED HEALTHY BMI 12/07/15!! (Six months and one week.) AT GOAL month 8. Maintaining at goal range (139- 144) ~ four (4) years !!
Hi Karen, welcome to the club. congrats on getting to goal. I am also 5'4 and had a goal of about 135. I ended up dropping to 117 accidentally but doctor said not to worry. he was right, it slowly crept back and i am 129 today. i like to stay around 125. I had my surgery at age 58 and i am now 64.
you will now begin the personal experimentation on what works for you to maintain. K is right about gradually adding carbs. Keep them in fruits and veggies and low fat dairy. I still virtually never eat bread, potatoes or rice or pasta. ditto sweets though i did have a truffle yesterday. if you stick with protein and veggies you won't have room for a lot of other stuff.
