Good morning all.
what an excellent discussion about calories. Excellent. Paula, great photo!!!!
to be honest have been floundering. Am on three weeks holiday and will be staying at home. A major life style change is looming and while have made this decision a tear ( no slip there even though the proper word should be 'year' ) ago it still feels like an abyss is opening up.
I will be going to part-time in Jan and am nervous as to how to fill my days. When am bored I eat. Plain and simple.
Everyone says ' oh when you retire you will be busier than ever' . Have already been offered another part time job.
All that to say that while I thought I was ready am not at all sure now.
Yesterday was not a good food day and other than a very short walk no exercise either. I need to have structure and need to be busy.
In any case today is a brand new day. Am hiding the nuts, huge downfall.
Good morning. So glad you're here Carbon. Also, glad for your honesty. Hearing honesty from others here helps me, but being honest also helps to keep on the journey and not give up. As far as your upcoming partial retirement, perhaps you could plan some things now to fill in during your non-work time, to avoid the boredom-eating cycle. Is there a fun class you've always wanted to take, or a hobby you've just not had time for? Maybe setting up some volunteering. Just some ideas. I'll be pulling for you!
Paula - what awesome pictures - you look fabulous!
I got on the scale this morning, and the number was lower than I'd prepared myself for - less than a pound from where I was before Thanksgiving. I hadn't had my morning constitutional either, so perhaps a few 10th's of a pound would have been shaved off. I tracked my calories and carbs yesterday, as best I could. It looks like the calories were just about 1400 and carbs were under 70. Today I am trying to keep the calories under 1200 to see what happens.
Dance was so much fun last night! The teacher was a bit coy about whether or not the routine we've been working on will be the one for the recital. Usually we start learning the recital number in January. If this is the one - holy cow I'm in trouble! :) It's to 'Conga' by Gloria Estephan and is very fast. Oh, well, I have a few months still to get it down. Luckily, I'm usually in one of the back rows to start and on the end so I'm last on/first off. We'll see!
Have a great Wednesday all!
Mary
Morning all. Just a quick check in because I'm driving north to visit family. It will be challenging food wise sonive packed my purse to minimize the harm :-) I'm at 112 - some salty things yesterday.
Carbon hang in there. I recently semi retired myself and yes boredom is the enemy.

Oh, Carbon, I hear you! Sometimes during the summer I feel as if I'm at a loss because I lack a schedule and I am less productive than I think I should be and yes, snacking (or rather not snacking) becomes a challenge! Hang in there! I find that even now, it's best for me to schedule things that are optional, like going to the gym and working out. It keeps me on track. I'm making a habit of each Saturday or Sunday to schedule my workouts for the coming week. It helps. An idea anyway.
I managed to keep my calories quite low yesterday, due to being a bit too busy in the morning. I skipped my morning snack and ate it in the afternoon. So, calories were 1104, protein was 113, carbs were 65. Not too shabby and the scale rewarded me by going down another 1.3, which puts me lower than before Thanksgiving. Yay!
Today my deliberate thought and action revolves around my staff meeting. I thought about taking a Quest Bar and an apple along because by 3 I do need to eat something. Instead I chose just the apple and have a cheese stick at the ready, if needed. That will keep the calories and the carbs down for the day.
NSV for me this morning - put on a medium cotton cashmere sweater and it was comfortable and loose fitting. AWESOME. I was pleased with the way I looked and felt. That in itself is priceless!
Hi all, I just love being the slow poke here because I get to read all this interesting news on everyone's activities.
Carbon you will love semi retirement and wonder how you worked so much before! There is so much fun stuff to do. Being at home all day is not for me so I found myself a new "job" by going to the art studio every day and working at the galleries a day or two a week. Anyway, think of something you have always wanted to do but lacked the time. best if it has a social element. and yeah hide those nuts.
today will be a long day. gallery duty 2 to 6 then gallery member meeting/party which will be one big nibble fest. gotta have a plan and a way to get a protein meal in before i get there. i think it will be tofu sticks from the coop . filling and not something i eat often.
well the holiday party season is upon us. dip and chips everywhere. gotta ponder this. diane
131.2, down again today. So close to goal! Calories have been low so far today so maybe another decrease for tomorrow. I have been on a sushi kick lately - some healthy choices! Tomorrow I have a work party at the Melting Pot - will be harder to make good choices but I will make sure the rest of the day is low calorie/low carb.
