Morning everyone:

Surprise! Surprise!  down 2.8 pounds!  Wow!

Anyway the following is Loooooooooooooooooong and off topic.  Sort of.  Needing advice.

Have mentioned that I work in tourism in our small west coast town and we host events yada yada.   Yesterday we did another one and while it was enjoyable I was flummoxed by a citizen's behaviour.

We have a very large hall that has a kitchen and part of what we had to do was to serve the usual coffee/tea/sandwiches and sweets.  Having done this MANY times before we more or less have it down pat.  HOWEVER yesterday:   Along the bar of the kitchen which overlooked the tables where people could sit, rest and enjoy food and each other's company, we had placed plates that had a selection of sandwiches/celery etc and sweets.  These were side plates not dinner ones so the idea was that each person could take a plate and be satisfied.  ( this was supposed to be an event that had ' light ' refreshments, not the full-meal-deal ) A great group of air-cadets were volunteering putting the full plates out and pouring the tea etc.   I was running around making sure that the rest of the event was going ok.   Just after we opened a young cadet came over and said that there was a lady eating all the food.   Over I go.  There was a youngish lady, rail thin, dressed beautifully in bo-ho clothing, complete with heels and a hat.   She looked great to be truthful.   And there she was eating plate after plate after plate.  By the time I got there she was on her third plate and I gawped as she ate two more.   The cadets were mesmerized.   So gathering myself together I asked her if she would like to sit at a table and I would bring a plate to her along with some more tea.  Oh no!  She was just fine thank you.   Finally her husband? or whoever, came for her and she left but not after she had eaten 8 plates of food. ( the cadets had been counting! :) )

(  I mean it is not as if we were running out of food at all and I could not grab the plates away or tell her:  ' This is the food police! One plate each! )

And it is not as if she was wrong doing this but it was interesting.   And just to be mean I bet she didn't gain an ounce!

What would YOU have done?

S******ed about her lack of decorum!

Though, I will tell you a story. I was at a gathering and there was a woman there who caught my eye. She was eating so perfectly and had a marvelous body, tan, etc... you get it, right? Mentioned to my friend how much I would like to have a little of what she had - the discipline, the modest portion, etc... My friend turns to me and tells me the woman is an anorexic in recovery.

Just goes to show, you never really know someone's back story. What we see and interpret can be so different from that person's reality.

BTW - up 1.7 pounds in two days. I hate hard work outs for just that reason. Sore all over and retaining fluid. Will go away, but still irks me when the food intake doesn't warrant it. At least I don't freak out about it anymore!

yay apple, down a few. maybe the "eating" lady found them. odd situation. maybe you could have suggested that this was the serving table and could she move to a guest table.  but if there was enough food, well so be it.  we used to do the same thing at our garden club tea. K is right - you don't know the history. while she may have appeared prosperous she could have been truly hungry. we used to get down and out people who would show up to our art openings right at 6 to eat food. we didn't mind as they were polite and looked at the art. we sometimes have leftovers and let someone give them to the transients that hang around our coastal town. oh well.

ps  maybe she was bullimic.

I think that you all hit the nail on the head.  Met with a friend this morning and she knew the lady.   She is bulimic.  So glad that I was kind.  She sure doesn't need anger directed at her.
