Things are gettin' "real" around here.  We have packed for the Race Across America, and our RV departed the Twin Cities for California last night.  We'll rendezvous with the RV on Friday in Palm Springs.  Over the weekend we'll make final race preparations, and we depart from Oceanside for our race on Tuesday, June 10.  I'm heading to Palm Springs on this Tuesday to set up base camp and welcome crew as they come in.

You can follow our progress  here

Are you going to hit the Bay Area on your way to Palm Springs? Maybe we can have an OH VSG Maintenance Board get together!

I have a minute for an update.

My step mom had the biopsy done on the tumor that was in her brain. Over Memorial weekend, I went to see her and she was progressing really well. She was up and walking where a few days before any movement caused her to vomit. I left feeling like they still shouldn't go on the trip with us that is happening in a couple of weeks, but we would make accommodations for them. So, that Monday night I worked out a separate place that we could take them each day - a museum, a casino (they love to gamble) etc, while we were off running around. I made sure that it was indoors and it had a place where they could get a meal. It wasn't going to feel much like a vacation for us, but we were going to get time with them. Wednesday morning I got a call from my SIL (we've all been taking turns caring for my Alzheimer's dad while my step mom went through her surgery, etc) saying that my step mom had a stroke (her 4th) and she is back in the hospital. I have spent the last couple of days canceling their part of the trip and getting the paperwork I need to file a claim with the trip insurance company - yes, I bought trip insurance. She now can barely talk, can't walk and is incontinent.

I go out next week to take my turn as their caregiver.

Friday before Memorial weekend, I interviewed for a technology position at the school. It's a 25% pay increase and it would be my other choice. Technology and the Library are equal in my mind for best places to work. I was the only woman that they interviewed. I found out this last Tuesday that I was not going on for a second interview with the Principal - I didn't make the short list. I was bummed, but I work in the Library which is awesome, so I just let it go. Letting it go and feeling like no matter where I am I am in my right place, really helped me to not eat my feelings. Friday I was working in one of the textbook rooms and the Technology Coordinator caught me alone. She said "I know we told you that you didn't make the final group that are going for a final interview with the principal, but I was wondering if you would mind interviewing with her anyway." It seems that tech coordinator and her boss can't agree on a candidate. They decided to let the principal decide and since they are doing that, they want to throw me back in the mix. I was shocked, but happy. I told her that I would LOVE a second chance at interviewing for the position. She said that my first interview was very strong and that I was "many people's" first choice. She and her boss can't agree on who would be best.

Long story longer, Monday afternoon, I have an interview with the principal.

My life is more crazy right now, but I am really at peace with it all. I'm not sure why. My weight is up, but I am averaging 15,000 steps a day, I'm moving and inventorying thousands of heavy textbooks each day and I feel the puffy in hands, eyes and feet that tells me I am dealing with a fair amount of fluid retention.

That's it here.

I am off to tackle the day.

Hugs. Love. Prayers. We've been dealing or should I say my parents mostly have been dealing with putting my Grandma in a nursing home for aggressive dementia.  It's not fun.  I'm sorry you're dealing with that, Slim but it looks like you're hanging on.  Peace is a good thing...

I hope you get the new job!!!

I'm holding pretty steady. Working out about 5-6 hours a week most weeks. Head is okay if I get enough water and sleep. Work is good. Love the new job. Weight is a constant at 125-ish. Pants are fitting better, probably from the strength training. Still having lower back issues and occasional knee twinges.

On the downside, I'm still not able to wean off my topamax and I'm not able to increase the exercise so I can train for an Olympic distance tri. However, if I get faster, that Olympic distance will come without having to workout longer. I guess I have to get faster. :D

119.5.

Yikes everybody has so much going on!!   Slim hang in there.  You might get that job yet.   So sorry for the family health problems. We are thinking of you. So hard to plan for the unexpected. My mom's health is precarious and its so hard to plan things weeks or months ahead because I never know when i will get summoned back to the midwest.

Lots to do to prepare to take my friend to SF  for vsg tomorrow.     She is now on OH as stuffed_animal  so watch for her newby posts.  Diane

147#. It's just a number:)

I'll be without a scale for a few days as we are a short holiday (I love that word) just a couple of hours South of where we live:). Shopping, baseball and the zoo are in the mix along with lots of walking and good food choices.

Tom-enjoy your trip. Very exciting!!!

Happy Sunday!!!

Hey Guys!

I'm new here, but some of the names look familiar.  I'm bouncing between 168 and 172 (is that too much of a bounce around window?).  I've recently been saying that as this point, the surgery was the easy part.  This maintenance is a killer!  I'm hoping to keep reading your stories and staying inspired.
