Daily Maintenance Weigh In - Monday March 3, 2014
My little one has Dr. Seuss week at school, but as today is a snow day I suppose tomorrow will be Black/Red/White AND Crazy Socks Days simultaneously. :) Crazy Hair Day is easy -- we'll just skip the taming-by-hair-product that morning. I'll let him wear my pirate cap on Hat Day. Inside-Out-and-Backwards Day just comes to him naturally. :)
It's a hit-n-run type of stomach virus. I could probably go to work today, but I work with a major hypochondriac, and hell, I don't blame her. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.
I'm just trying to hydrate myself and get some things done around the house.
I'll probably try to start the decontamination effort this afternoon.
Venting so I don't eat over it, if no one minds.
You'll recall the people it took us MONTHS to evict and who trashed our house and left a huge dumpster's worth of trash and broken stuff behind, not to mention a stench and a thriving mouse population which apparently left on its own when its food supply was cut off via trash removal from the house. We are thousands of dollars in the hole over that house, given repair costs and unpaid rent, and it's getting worse every week.
Our neighbor told us last week that former male tenant was still showing up at that house's mailbox and collecting his mail, so I notified the local post office that they had been evicted, etc. Yesterday while working down there again I realized that the mail box was only still on its post because they had loosely tied it to the post with an electrical cord, so I removed the box and the cord and stored them inside the house pending our re-renting or selling the house when it's restored to liveable condition. The post office rep told me absolutely that they had no right to receive mail there and said that the carrier would be notified to stop delivering to that house.
Well, the former male tenant just called my husband's cell, and he stupidly answered it. Former male tenant wanted to know if it would be too much trouble for my husband to drive down there in this snowstorm to see if FedEx had delivered a package to the house FOR THEM. WTF?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not that it matters, but former male tenant is holed up with his wife and three kids in his mil's two-bedroom trailer many miles closer to the rental house than where we live. I believe they are driving two of those kids down to school every day and basically otherwise pretending that they still live there.
Former male tenant also found out -- probably from his brother, who lives down the street from the rental house -- that I had removed the mailbox, and he threatened to have us arrested because he was sure there was mail in there for him and that we stole it. (The mailbox was empty, FWIW.) My husband proceeded to unload some of his pent-up angst to former male tenant about the wreck of a house they left behind and all of their lies and broken promises and broken lease stipulations. Either former male tenant is more stupid than even we imagined he is, or else he's high or drunk or maybe just a sociopath. He had an excuse for everything my husband said to him and just couldn't seem to get it through his head that he does not have the right to have ANYTHING delivered to that house anymore.
Given all of the empty oxycodone bottles I found at the house, in former male tenant's name AND his half-brother's name, uh, I'm betting he's high.
Thanks for listening. Attempting to exhale. Good time to get on the recumbent bike, I think.

Wow Nancy! That's REALLY awful! I'm so sorry that this keeps dragging on and on for you. Vent away, we're here to listen.
I hope you manage to have a relatively stress-free day today.

yikes this really sucks. eviction can be such an ordeal. i have a friend here who has just been through getting rid of the tenant from hell. finally had to pay her to go away because she really knew how to game the system. sorry you had all this. the pill bottles explain a lot. its illegal but i would have been tempted to get that package and hold it hostage. diane
