Daily Maintenance Weigh In - Saturday, February 15, 2014
Same as yesterday (181.4).
Experimenting with some new "on-the-bike" food options for long rides. Found a cool book - "Feed Zone Portables" - which gives some simple, but great recipes for making fresh food that is easily consumable during exercise so you can get away from the heavily processed Gels, bars, etc. So far I've made 3 kinds of rice cakes (using Sushi/sticky rice) with combinations of coconut, apples, bananas, dark chocolate and PB&J.... also a savory "muffin" of sausage, cheese and potato, and a French toast bread cake. Already liking them better than the crap I usually need to eat to get enough calories while under heavy exertion for long durations.
I'm testing for freezing and refrigeration to see how the 5 varieties that I've made hold together and taste. I have a big ride (indoors) this afternoon, so I can test taste, palatability and stomach upset... This way I can dial in flavors, carbs, calories, etc. rather than relying on manufactured foods...
French toast cake on the left, sausage/cheese/potato on the right...

So this is literally something you eat while riding? Cool. Presumably it has to be reachable and unwrappable with one hand? Are carbs or proteins the more important component of such things for the purposes of sustained riding? I'm guessing it's the carbs.

Hey, I got a ukelele for Valentine's day! I'm learning how to play the Moon Song - super fun! Pics tomorrow if I can figure out how to put them on here.
100.8 lbs today. For some reason, my weight feels more stable at the higher calorie/cal levels (by higher, I mean 1500/100ish). Weird.
Have a great Saturday everybody!
