Daily Maintenance Weigh In - Sanday, January 19, 2014
165.4
Two days in a row w/o added carbs. Hopefully today will be easier, but it is what it is, and it is what I made it to be.
Hope you are all doing well!

102.4 lbs today.
I've been experimenting this week with calorie and carb levels. So far, I show a half pound gain when I consume 1500 cals with about 100 carbs. I show a smaller gain (but still a gain) at 1,400 cals with 90 carbs. At 1,100 cals and 50 carbs, I show a small drop. Full disclosure - I had at least one restaurant meal on all of these days. I realize that it's really not about individual days - a weekly average would probably be a better indicator - but I had to start somewhere. I also wanted to include the "restaurant days" because my life will never be restaurant-free (although I certainly home cook a majority of my meals) and I want a maintenance plan that I'll find to be sustainable.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to eat more than 50 carbs a day and not gain weight. I feel like I've really compromised my brain functions by going ultra-low carb over the past two years since VSG. I realize that a lot of people don't seem to be affected by low carb levels, but I feel like my cognition and memory have really suffered through all this. Sometimes I think my brain feels like teflon, with everything I learn just sliding away. Or maybe that's just normal for being 43 - lol!
Those are my musings for the day. I hope everyone enjoys the holiday tomorrow!

Fiona it would be great to get you up to a few more carbs. I weigh a couple of pounds more when I'm eating around 100 grams a day, but I don't continue to gain. For me, it's just a matter of adjusting my baseline up a couple of pounds. In my case it doesn't bother me because I'm still on the lower end of normal BMI range.

Thank you Linda. It's interesting that at 100 carbs, you weigh more but you "don't continue to gain." I haven't discovered that because I've always abandoned any caloric experiment that had me gaining a half pound overnight. I'm totally phobic about regain. To do what you're suggesting, I would have to learn to tolerate being over 103 lbs...maybe switch my weight range to 102-105 lbs. I'd be willing to do that but only if I could get 100 carbs a day and more brain function out of it :-)
Thanks for your thoughts Linda. I appreciate it.

It's true, your brain definitely needs carbs to function. I just need to figure out the right mix of carbs and cals for me so I don't gain weight but I don't get all stoooopid either :-)....
I hope you had a great Sunday!
