The twisted sleeve saga continues
Well, I wrote a post a while back that somehow after 5+ years my stomach decided to twist in the middle of the sleeve and make an hourglass. Needless to say, the top of the hourglass then got all stretched out, because I didnt know about the twist. I just realized that I didn't feel much restriction one day and then couldn't swallow water the next, which is normal when you are one year out, but not 5. I went to have the barium swallow and the gastrocopy, where they found the problem and the clinician actually thought from the inside of my stomach that there was a band placed too tightly around the center...ummmm never had a band, never will.
So anyway, my Dr. tells me that I need surgery, which I expected. he said that we have 3 options
1. cut away the adhesions that are making the twist and see if the sleeeve goes back to a sleeve shape
2. do the above, and then resleeve me because my fundus is stretched out
3. IF the twist won't budge and is "fibrous" then they have to remove the lower part of my stomach, give me a small sleeve and a mini bypass
#2 is the desired option of course, and I would be resleeved to a 32 oversewn from a loose 36. Hallelujah, but I am freaking out about option 3, because I don't want to loose my pylorus valve.
I know none of you can help me, I just need a safe place to talk about this and not be told that the surgery failed or some other BS that they would say on the main board. Stuff happens. and it happened to me. boo hoo.
time to put on my big girl panties

Heather, I'm really sorry to hear this. I hope you're not in a lot of pain right now. When will the surgery happen, and where (you're not in the States, right?)? Please keep us posted on your progress. We're all here for you.

Good luck. Remember the words of Mark Twain...
“I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened.”
Here's hoping you have nothing to worry about!

Oh my, that is such an odd situation! Who would think that something like this could happen so far out from surgery? Nevertheless, it sounds like they have some solutions, and god willing, you may end up with a 32f oversewn at the end of all the saga. Please keep us posted.

I hope all goes well and you are able to get your newer sleeve with success :)
It's never easy facing surgery, especially one that you were not counting on having! Our bodies do things that we don't expect sometimes and it's not anything you did, or your surgeon either. It's just a bad draw.
Two years ago I had a small bowel obstruction caused by an internal hernia, very rare. I had major surgery and thankfully all went well, but soooo many people just kept telling me that it was my fault for having had the sleeve, or that it was a complication from my sleeve, when in had nothing to do with that. It's frustrating, so come here and vent all you want because we do understand :)
