Daily Maintenance Weigh In - Sunday, December 22
Happy Sunday everyone...
183.6 - about the same as yesterday (i think up .2, but after a 3+ lb drop the day before that's not alarming)
Sitting in a hotel in Albuquerque this morning ready to head out on our last leg to Tucson today. Yesterday was rough - we were supposed to get another 200 miles in, but the roads were pretty gruesome the whole day. From Oklahoma City to the Texas Panhandle we were on the edge of a rain/snow/ice storm that kept things very "interesting" until 20 miles from the New Mexico border... a multi-semi pileup (and we'd seen many semis on their sides during the day) stopped traffic in both directions for about 2 hours. I had my verizon 4g hotspot, so we sat and watched French game shows from FranceTV over the internet while we waited.. Here's josie watching "Questions pour une champion!"
then the 20 miles to the border was like Ice Road Truckers - inch thick bed of ice that kept us creeping along. At the NM border they had plowed and sanded, so our last few hours weren't too bad. The day was so exhausting that we stopped short.
Today should be easy - 7 hours drive with a stop for lunch with old friends in Las Cruces, NM.
Have a safe day if you're on the roads!
Tom

141.9# Sorry about your icy travels. I was so glad Southern Oklahoma didn't get hit with ice. We did get tons of rain.. Looking for to some more family time!!!
I wanted you all to know that I appreciate your love and support. This is a life long journey that can't be done alone. Thank you... Merry Christmas and a Blessed 2014! ( this will be my last weigh in for a few days unless I decide to pack my scale...lol)

Tom, I didn't know what people meant by ice until I drove from Denver to St. Louis in an epi**** storm while I was in college. Took 16 hours to get to Kansas City. My friend and I stopped at a sleazy (like $25 a night - sleep fully clothed because we couldn't tell if anything had ever been cleaned. Yuck) hotel for a few hours of sleep. We walked back out to the car and the doors were frozen shut. A sheet of 1/2 inch of ice spread across the entire car. Luckily, I was smart enough to take the snow brush/ice pick into the hotel with me. We spent an hour just picking a door open.
I've seen some really bad storms here in Colorado. Hell, we had a tornado in 2009 that caused $35K in damage to our home. But, that ice storm still beats them all.
Be careful.
I've seen that a couple times in Minnesota, but it's pretty rare. Yesterday wasn't that bad - but at a gas stop I had to knock off a 100 pounds of ice or so... today is beaurtiful - 52 and sunny as we race across suthern AZ.

Oh my gosh, Tom! I can't believe you got out and drove in that stuff!!!! We can't even get off our front porch for the ice here. Please be safe. 145.8 down 2 pounds despite holiday baking yesterday (and a nibble here and a taste there- go figure). Loving the sleeve. Years past I would be baking and making up a storm and eating it as fast as I could make it--holiday consumed by-for-and behalf of food--never satisfied. This year? A truly Merry Christmas--food "sober" and happy.
