Easing your foot off the brake
I would appreciate hearing some words of wisdom from youse guys in maintenance regarding upping the calories to stop the weight loss. I am struggling with that somewhat. Since I'm still trying to undereat my sleeve -- or at least not overeat it -- I'm not inclined to increase portion sizes, and I know I can add healthy carbs and fats now. The problem is that I find I am reluctant to do so, possibly after being so militant for the past 12 months and less so for the five months prior to that.
I look rather anorexic from about the bustline up, really bony. Below that is where the excess skin hangs, but even that is very slender underneath. Without that excess skin I would weigh less than 163 for sure. I know it's time to stop and move on, but there's that reluctance. I don't know if it's fear of regain -- once regained over 150 pounds -- or what.
Have any of you gone through this who wish to speak to it?
Help? Thanks!
Well, I'm not in maintenance yet, but I know how to make my own weight loss come to a screeching halt - and I can do it with healthy foods.
All I have to add into my diet is full fats and nuts and the weight loss stops.
Others will come along with some great ideas.
Navigating maintenance is hard. You got this.
I've been there too, but I'm slowly resolving it. As Slim said, it's all about adding fat. I purposefully eat things like a handful of almonds, a serving of pork rinds, a spoonful of almond butter, sauces, gravy, full fat cheese and dairy. It's all delicious and doesn't require volume. I also increased my protein intake intake again.
Be patient with your losses. Go slowly with adding your calories. You might be a bit scrawny for awhile but it levels out. I still get worried from time to time but I only dropped a pound over the last month so I think I'm getting close to my set point.

three years ago i had this issue too. dropped to 117 when i was supposed to stop at 130. now i am fairly stable at 122. started eating a blob of peanut butter everey evening. that did it. nuts and healthy fats are the best thing. maybe some cheese. everybody finds the first year of maintenance really scary. then it gets less so. dietitian also told me to use 1% milk for awhile. you are right to keep portions small as you probably can't handle bigger ones anyway. just add a snack in the evening that is some of the above stuff. congrats on getting to your goal.
I still like that blob of peanut butter at night and sometimes have to watch it to avoid gain. diane
