Ugh ugh ugh.

189.0 this AM.  I don't get it.   I jumped 7 damn pounds since last week.  This makes no sense.  I'm still tracking calories, the overall calorie intake hasn't changed over the past months... I was in NY for 4 days, but it wasn't a food fest... I spent one day at an all-day barista course drinking espresso (wow - that was an experience!).  I walked 5 miles a day.  Etc. etc.  I wasn't as clean as I'd like, but ate typical of my travel in the past.

The biggest recent change is that over the past 2 weeks I've added resistance workouts.  But I was away from a scale for a week while traveling so I'm not as clear as I'd like to be on the progression.  I did a couple big workouts last week and a couple this week since returning home.

The big jump in weight really caught me off-guard.

I don't see how 7 lbs in a week makes sense under any condition - it's like my scale went crazy... But I've compared with another scale and it seems like it's real. I'll have to check against my tightest jeans to make sure...

So GRRR - back to basics this week.  Driving to Tucson on Friday where I'll be more in control of things, cycling every day outside, etc.

Have a great day!

144.4 -  nice little surprise.

Tom - that's bloat - pure and simple. With the resistance workout, your body will hold onto the water because it uses it to surround the damaged tissue (muscle) while it heals.

Take a look at your eating - what you are REALLY eating - not what you plan to eat. Make sure it is true. If it is, then you will probably have a big drop in your weight in a few days, imo of course. Make sure that you are getting plenty of water. You might even try to up it a little.

Stay calm. You got this.

Thanks for the reassuring words... I SURE hope so.  Gotta up the H20 for sure... have not been doing enough fluids in the super-cold weather here and in NY.

Thanks - I'll feel better when the weather is warmer and I can really work out on the bike - heading to Tucson Friday, and two weeks outside should make a difference.

I think I have a polar bear body - as soon as it turns cold it wants to hold on to every bit of insulation.  Would be a great adaptation for my nordic ancestors.  Not so much now.

Tom, I so know what you're going through.  Repeat after me:  "This isn't real.  This isn't real.  This isn't real."  I suspect once you get back into your "regular programming," things will come back to normal.

Hang in there!

I'm at 102 lbs today.  Still hoping for a small drop in that.

And that's why I stopped posting in these threads and weighing myself every day. It's so easy to become obsessed over those numbers when everything else in our lives is telling us we're fine. Or using that number as a shield when everything else in our lives is sending a clear signal we're in trouble.

I have a friend who doesn't even own a scale who just goes by how her pants fit and I decided that would be my goal. I'm down to weighing 2x a week and it works great. Of course, it took years to get here. I'm not going to pretend it was easy. But I've been weight stable before (abet at a higher, undesirable weight) so I know it's completely possible. I just had to trust myself, I think and not go into EAT ALL THE THINGS mode.

I hear you but I'm just not there yet.  I don't have trust in myself, and every time in my life that I've taken my eyes off the scale, it's been disaster.  Maybe this time will be different, but I need to see more stability before I'm ready to go that way.
