VSG Maintenance Group
Daily Maintenance Weigh In - Thursday Aug 22, 2013
175 today. Still in my range. Doing 75 miles Saturday and 75 miles Sunday, so I'll be burning at least a pound of fat or so over the weekend. Yay! I also dialed in my pre-ride nutrition - and it involves whole grain pancakes, so double-yay!
I fell in with the nicest group of people (old farts like me) who cycle - just amazing. Some amazing stories... B. is diabetic (skinny, but insulin dependent)... M. has had a heart-attack and a kidney transplant... A lot of them, like me, didn't discover their inner-athelete until after they hit age 50. Now we're all out there puffing our way up hills together, doing serious training. The group of us are planning a lot of outings (starting this weekend) over the fall and winter to warmer places to keep in shape. Should be very enjoyable!
I had the bright idea to put together a group of over-50 cyclists to do a 4-person, 400 mile team race next year. They run a series of 6 of them around the country - with one in Minnesota that just occurred this year. Looks like to be competitive we need to be able to do 400miles in about 21 - 22 hours. I'm curious to see if I can pull this off. I'm kind of hoping my coach will participate - we'll make him do all the climbs. I've already called dibs on the descents - coasting is my specialty!
Have a great Thursday!
-Tom

Slim it looks like you're holding your own during this stressful time. A few bad food choices doesn't change that. Old saying 'progress not perfection' definitely applies here. Hang in, friend

You and me both Slim. Let's just hang in there for the time being. I'm sure some sort of strategy will present itself at some point....

Me too... still in the 90s here this week... Sometimes I don't put the convertible away until Thanksgiving - hopefully this year that will happen again, which will mean good biking... cold is ok, as long as it's not too windy...

123.2 today. It's all good.
Today is prep day for 10 day travel to join my hubby who is temporarily working in San Antonio. (How's that for a run on sentence?). Got my spray tan yesterday so that my Canadian white legs don't frighten the Texans.
Tom, it's wonderful to hear about your cycling escapades. Wishing you well on your weekend miles.

Thanks Linda - don't burst into flames in San Antonio - Us northerners have to be careful!
