Good morning everybody!

175 today - back in my zone. Whew.

Yesterday I did my longest cycling event of the year, The Dairyland Dare.  200 km (126 miles).  It was a gorgeous day, started cool in the am and stayed reasonable throughout the day.  The area we rode in is that part of the midwest that was carved from glaciers, and while not mountainous is extremely hilly.  In aggregate we climbed almost 11,000 feet and were almost never on flat ground.  I spent 8.5 hours in the saddle as well as time in rest stops to refuel.

The ride was supported, in part, by Lands End, and started/finished in their HQ parking lot in Dodgeville WI.  Hope to have some pix in a few days - as they had photographers all over the course.

Good Morning!  Wow! What  an event, jub:). Very impressive!  My event yesterday was clothes shopping...lol

143.1#  that's up from the lasts three days, but my water intake was not near my normal.

I am off to a gun safety class with my daughter. We have been learning how to take a gun away from a bad guy in karate (obviously only in extreme situations). I decided that we needed to know what to do with the gun after we take it away. So we are off to learn all about handuns.

Kind of fun and kind of scary. There's such a gun stigma right now, I don't talk about what we are doing with too many people.

You all have a wonderful day!

My bf and I have been talking about and talking about going to a gun safety class, but we've never gotten around to it.  Although we would never keep one, I'd like to know what to do with one in case ..... well....I don't know....in case I have to handle one.  It's unlikely, but you just never know.

Have fun with your daughter today. I'd love to hear how your class went.

Well, we just finished the class and now both my daughter and I want our own guns. To say it was a blast is an understatement. I went into this just wanting to know what to do with a gun if for some reason I'm in a situation where I have one or take one away from a bad guy. I left thinking that was the most fun I've had in a long ass time. Adrenaline rush BIG TIME.

Part of it is that we had a fantastic instructor. He is NRA board certified. Old fart army guy. But, he's smart about guns and can make a person feel very comfortable with them. He never pushed us to do anything we didn't want to do. It was very cool. He taught us how to make 12 different gun safe, meaning they can be handled without feel of going off. That alone, was priceless info, imo.

My daughter is talking about going into competitive target shooting. The instructor said that each year scholarships BEG for recipients - especially girls.

I know that guns are really really taboo right now, but personally, I feel so much better having some knowledge of them. The fear of the unknown is gone.

126 miles with 11,000 feet of elevation gain sounds like suffering to me, but the sweetest kind of suffering, if that makes any sense  I hope you're very proud of yourself Tom - not a lot of people can do what you just did!  Congratulations on everything you've achieved this past year or so - the weight loss, the riding, the French language lessons (!) - all of it.  I think it's great that you work hard and play hard too.

Yesterday, I took a test ride on a Vespa.  It was amazing!  What a difference from my current bike! I"m holding myself back because I'm new to riding and statistics say you're most vulnerable to accidents during the first six months.  I wouldn't want to get a brand new Vespa, then immediately dent it or worse!  But it's taking a lot of self control not to run back out to the dealership and order one in dragon red!

101.6  lbs today.  I hope everyone enjoys what's left of the weekend!
