151.5 - still holding steady in the 151 range. Nice.

Off to meet a client on-site downtown today. Just hoping my back holds up. He's aware of it. I'm taking the metro rail train down so hubby doesn't have to drive me (he hates driving down there). So I get a little over an hour total to myself to read and chill. Ahhhh... I'm looking forward to it. He's been working on his room for like 3 weeks now and the constant table saw buzz is driving me crazy. WTF is he doing in there?!?!?! OMG.

150.4

Can't ride my bike this am. Have to take a car to the meca-neck before work.

Candy - maybe he's measuring once and cutting twice. My hubby always gets a better cut on the second try. :-)

So far, I'm liking this job. Only one person ****** me off and she's not there right now. WOOT!!! Apparently, she ****** everyone off.

Morning everyone:

Down another pound.    Still 2 above my goal of 160.

It has been scary to be out of my comfort range.  I ' felt' with the extra 5 - 6 pounds like had gained all 140 pounds back.

Have the best weekend everyone.

174 today.

Hard day yesterday, had a memorial service for my brother who passed away a few weeks ago.  I think in times past I would have self-medicated with food - instead I got on my bike and just did hill climbs to work through it.  I'm finding alone time on the bike to be very good for me.  I thought I'd be bored and would need to wear headphones and listen to stuff - but that's really frowned on while biking for safety reasons...  So I use the time to think instead.  It seems to be helpful.

June was a tough month - my M-I-L passed away, then my brother - both expected, both a relief from suffering, both were able to say their goodbyes and go peacefully.  But it's still sad of course.

My brother was a very cool guy - his passion was airplanes, and he was a top-level aerobatic pilot and did competitions and air-shows.  Here's a link to his promo video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hmov-pSZM8w

During his memorial service his aerobatic buddies did a flyover in the "missing man formation."  If you haven't seen this, it's a tradition in aviation - a group of planes fly in formation, a "V" and as they fly over, one of them pulls straight up, and heads for the heavens, as the others continue on.  Moving.

So sorry for your losses. It's never an easy thing.

Way to use the bike as your comfort. Healthy transfer addictions are the way to go, imo. That's why I keep dragging my body to karate.

I'm sorry for your losses but I'm glad to hear those hard hills of yours are therapeutic.  Are you all done with your races or is there one more big one coming up?

Thanks - yes, one more big one, 200k, in August.  Hope to do one in September and October as well.  AFter that, I'll have to travel out of the frozen north.

So sorry for your loss.

I find that I'm not bored on my bike either...thinking, analyzing, praying time.  I try to do that when I'm not breathing hard.

The steep hills are the most interesting. Usually, if there's a group, it gets very quiet as everyone goes inside themselves to dig down and find the power to get up the hill.  If it's a bit beyond that, then you get audible moaning, or colorful expletives.

During the last race I was climbing a nasty hill alongside a young-ish Russian woman (Her name was stenciled on her jersey...) she cursed a blue streak all the way up in a great accent...

As you dig into the "sport" of cycling it is completely interwoven with the notion of "pain" in a way that I've not seen in other sports.  Runners seem to focus on the "high" - cyclists focus on the suffering.  It's very strange.  I think it comes for the combination of man and machine.  The amount of "burn" in your legs or lungs never seems to change - you just get up the hill a bit faster, but it always hurts the same amount.
