It can happen at anytime. I think mine is getting worse, but after having an endoscopy done, there are physical reasons for the reflux. I have a hiatal hernia and a loose lower esophageal sphincter, which are adding to the problem. Lifestyle changes help, and I have started using Zantac as needed during the daytime and before going to bed, in addition to the Protonix that I take in the AM.

i cut back on coffee, which has helped. I eat more slowly and frequently, and I sleep with a wedge pillow, which helps to keep my head elevated.

look up lifestyle changes and GERD. Many symptoms can be managed by diet, natural remedies, as well as prescription medications.

I'd look at what you are eating and when. It's hot, so we tend to eat later in the evening. You might have to cut out coffee for a little bit and see if that helps. Also what you eat/drink at night can cause issues.

I've been on a ppi since the beginning. I've gotten it down to 1 10mg Pepcid at night. I would love to get rid of it, but I haven't been successful in my tries, yet.

If you don't have to start a ppi, I wouldn't. Sucks getting off them.

Slim,

Do you take extra calcium because you are on a PPI?

Yep. I take TwinLab, Calcium Citrate chewable wafers. I take 2 every day. I buy them at Vitamin Shoppe.

One wafer is 1000 mg Calium Citrate, 800 IU Vitamin D, 500 mg Magnesium -  the adult serving size says 4 wafers a day, but I have blood work done regularly and, so far, everything had come back normal with bone stuff. I don't worry about the calories or carbs, but they are 20 calories per serving (adult serving), 5 carbs per serving.

They're like candy to me.

I hate the reflux. I'd rather use a ppi and take my chances.

Did you just get it all of a sudden?  Two years after surgery for me and I'm quite baffled by it.  Could be that i was just going to get it at some point like an age thing but out of the blue seems weird.  anyhow i hate it and guess I really should see what can be done short of being on meds because i hate taking pulls for anything beyond birth control

Anyone can get reflux even if they haven't had surgery. I'd treat it just like normies do and it will probably go away. For me, I got on an OTC PPI for 14 days and that usually kills it. If it doesn't, you might want to see your PCP as it's always possible you've picked up H. Pylori. That can only be treated with anti-biotics.
