Daily Maintenance Weigh-In - Tuesday June 11, 2013
147.8 - hard karate workout yesterday. Feeling the puffy.
I started feeling sick yesterday, but I couldn't tell if the sore throat might just be allergies. Woke up this morning with my throat still hurting and nose kind of stuffy/sneezy. I still can't quite tell if it's a cold or just nasty, bad allergies (I have really bad allergies, so it's hard to tell the difference sometimes), but I started taking my homeopathic voodoo stuff yesterday just in case.
Sore throats suck ass. Thus the reason why I was up at 5-******g o'clock a-******g-m during summer break.
124.9 Holding pretty steady. Going up and down a few tenths from day to day. Last week went down to 123.9 which was a new low for me, but I don't think my body likes it there because I bounced back up. I was hoping to maintain around 123 for now, but wasn't sustainable yet with vigorous exercise and the hunger that comes with it. I am making healthy choices but have found myself increasing calories on some days when my body is crying out for MORE!

176 - ouch. Over the top of maintenance range. Massive workout over the weekend, 72 miles - pushed very hard, this followed a tough thursday hill-climb workout. Sunday/Monday recovery, with lots of hydration... so hopefully it's muscle growth/repair... actually I'm sure it is... but still, will watch carbs today and keep them low so the water can flow.
Had my A2 French exam yesterday, so glad that is over with... Next week I start prepping for the next level - B1. Learning a language is sure tough - and somedays I'm very frustrated - but I can feel progress, especially at these testing events. Yesterday i was able to walk into a room and carry on a conversation with two examiners for 15 minutes and understand them, and make myself understood. At least at a simple level. Something I was never able to do in previous language attempts.
There seems to be some parallels with maintenance. It is a very long-term project, it can't be done in a few months, more like "life long." There are delays, frustrations, distractions, plateaus, etc. Perseverance is rewarded - maybe more than skill. Even the dullest person learns to master his/her own language... just through thousands of hours of exposure and practice.
Post-WLS, similar things apply... perseverance is the key... stubbornness is an "positive" trait.

I've had a few flashes of that, but not too much. I can definitely tell when I study a lot - i have more vivid dreams. I think that can happen as the brain is re-organizing the neurons to make room for new learnin'.
It's a definite challenge to learn a language as an old guy. Though I didn't take to it much as a kid - so maybe it's just me. What I've lost in mental flexibility, I've gained in stick-to-itiveness. I'm slowly creeping up on my goal of being able to watch a French movie without subtitles - but I have still have a long way to go. But baby steps! I now have the vocabulary of a competent "helper monkey" which is a dramatic increase from "mildly mentally handicapped dog" - where I was a year ago.

154.2. I want to get my entire spine removed at this point. It's visibly swollen and I'm just tired of it.
I'm also constipated a good bit. Damned meds, I think this will be a milk of magnesia afternoon or epsom salts or something. Eh, fuck!
