Daily Weigh-In for Maintenance June 1st 2013

Good morning everyone on this first day of June.

JUNE!  When did this happen.   I think that we just got finished with Christmas didn't we?

Down to 160.2 so .2 above goal.  Not bad. But it was a very bad eating day yesterday as it was a very emotional day.   And still, food, is my solace.      Started having sugar and goodness!  as we know, the siren call of it, calls and calls and calls.

Have the best weekend everyone.

172.5 - very stable this week.  I kept the carbs at bay... 100k training ride scheduled for tomorrow.  The sun is actually out here today... after raining every day for a week.

119 and feeling good.

we had a lengthy discussion about sugar today at support group. dr said there are no easy solutions to complex problems but ultimately its within your power to stay away from the stuff. and we all know the more you eat of it the more you want so its best just to stay away. i have found my sweet cravings are satisfied by eating some red grapes.

Oh how I agree. The more you eat the more you want.

I have no excuse.  Even as I was scarfing it down I thought:  THIS is not helping the problem/pain.

Back on track today.

I need to have carrots or apples closer on hand so am not eating the first thing that comes at me.  I have no sweet/cakes at home but work is a mine field.  Fortunately I am moving to another floor and there will be me, a few other people and inanimate objects that don't care if they ever saw sugar.

Thanks for the reminder.

we talked about this very thing - people that bring donuts and such to the workplace. dr. says its totally ok to tell people you are struggling with issues of sugar and could they put this stuff out of sight or whatever? ask yourself if some lean protein is appealing and if the answer is no. you are not hungry and don't need the sweets. if yes, then have a cheese stick or something healthy. glad you are moving offices.   D

I think the food at work thing is complicated by our whole human response to FREE FOOD. I truly believe we're hard-wired to want free food more than food we provide for ourselves because of some stupid ancient survival instinct that makes no sense now but once did.

I start a new job on Monday and they consider it a perk that they have free food. There are bowls of candy everywhere and granola bars and bags of chips and cereal and a whole bunch of other crap that I would never eat. They also have "healthy" food but it's things like frozen waffles, stuff to make PB&J sandwiches, yogurt that's full of sugar, and a small amount of fruit.

I would say that there's pretty much noting there I would eat except (maybe) some of the fruit. I could get them to get more of the sort of thing I would eat but I don't really want to be eating a lot of that either. For example, I do eat nuts but I don't want them buying a big jar of nuts at Costco. I don't eat them that often and don't want to be encouraged to eat the more.

Right now I bring the following with me to work every day:

-a protein bar (none of the ones I eat can be gotten at Costco though if they got the Kind+Protein bars, I would eat them)

-a small bag of "baby" carrots

-a small lunch (usually a lean protein and veggies)

-a small container of non-fat cottage cheese or 0% FAGE or maybe some reduced fat cheese sticks or hard-boiled eggs. If I bring FAGE, I might bring half a serving of fruit to put in it

-vitamins

I also keep protein hot chocolate and Crystal Lite sticks in my desk just in case. I guess they could supply the Crystal Lite sticks. mail

yep free food - it the hunter/gatherer instinct.

and i think in the workplace its a way of finding a small pleasure when we have jobs we don't like all that much or just dealing with work in general. i am lucky to do really fun work these days but used to do the high stress corporate thing and it sure makes you graze in the office kitchen!  D

Just another suggestion. I make decaf chai tea in the afternoons and sweeten it with just a little SF coffeemate. It hits the spot and if I want to, i can count it toward my daily fluid intake--I usually don't though, because I get in more than enough fluids.

You could do it with any decaf coffee or tea.

It really gets me over the hump in the afternoons.
