VSG Maintenance Group
Blood Pressure Question
Hey Peeps! I'm going to the experts on this one. I've recently had some dental issues and when I go in, they take my blood pressure. I was hypertensive prior to VSG, but my pressure came down and I went off my meds. My pressure was normal...until recently. It's back up again and I can't really figure out why. I'm not doing anything differently. My weight has been steady for over a year at 125-128. I don't eat a lot of salt (no jerky anymore, makes me retain water and that just ****** me off). I eat clean. I drink 1.5 cups of black coffee everyday, but I've been doing that for years so it's nothing new. My labs were all good in November, when I went for my follow up. I get all my water and vitamins in daily.
Anyway, I can't figure this out. I felt my heart palpitating in my chest while I was cooking DH dinner tonight and decided to break out the ole blood pressure cuff to check it out. I was at 131/91. I had a tooth extracted last Friday and it was 134/92. The nurse attributed it to the fact that the oral surgeon was going to yank a tooth out (and I really was terrified), but I knew better. The last four times my pressure has been taken, it's been high.
Okay, I know I'm rambling, sorry...so here's the question...Has anyone seen a maintenance peep that their blood pressure went back up after the big weight loss and steady maintenance????
If this keeps up, I'm going to the PCP to see about it. I think I'll monitor it daily for a week or so and see what I get.
Let me know if you have any thoughts or input or have seen this occur with anyone else on the board. This is just weird.

You must permanently change your lifestyle if you want your weight loss to be permanent. You can do it!
Mine hasn't gone up, but it never went down, sadly, and I was never able to get off my meds. I asked my PCP about it, and she said, "thin people have high blood pressure, too--it's hereditary." So maybe you got a temporary benefit but your natural tendencies are returning? Hope you get it resolved...

Thanks Lizanne, you may just be right. I'll watch it and let you all know how it shakes out. Thank you for responding. My Dad had High BP and my Mom has Low BP so I was hoping maybe somehow I'd end up in the middle, but it doesn't seem to be working out that way. Have a good evening.

Mine tends to fluctuate. If I want it to stay down, I have to stay hydrated.

Thanks for chiming in Heather. At least I know I'm not alone...I've been taking a reading twice a day all week and it's normal in the morning when I get up, but back to borderline at 6:00 pm. I'll visit with my PCP about it and see what he thinks.
