Introducing more fiber
Hi All,
I was wondering what you all thought about adding in more fiber. I've had issues with having enough movement since surgery, and I've decided to try adding FIber One cereal to my diet to reach the goal of 26 grams of fiber/day and help things move. The other end of this is I have to make sure i get enough water in to make sure things move. Am I A) setting myself up for carb attacks, and B) stretching the ol' pouch. I don't and refuse to take mirolax on a regular basis. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
this can be an issue and it was for me for a long time. it improved when i was able to eat more vegetables and not use protein drinks which i think are the culprit for many of us.
for a time, i ate three prunes per day. not too many calories. then dietician suggested chia seed or flax seed. i put a teaspoon of golden flax seed on my greek yogurt every morning and it works well.
and don't forget to drink lots of water. and don't bother with bennefiber stuff. not useful.

For me, making sure I drink enough water works the best. I have to drink at least 80 oz. to keep everything moving smoothly.

I drink a protein drink every morning. I add ground flax to that. I was told you have to grind them to be beneficial. I get them at the health food store and they are whole seeds which I grind in a coffee grinder. They don't so much for my constipation.
Are the protein drinks causing constipation?
Also, does it have to be plain water? I drink water, but I sometimes add crystal lite drops to it, or I drink that Vitamin Water stuff. It's gotten hard for me to drink plain water.
I pretty much never drink plain water. I drink tea, water with flavor packets, protein drinks, and protein hot chocolate.
