Couple of things:

First, call your surgeon. This doesn't sound normal to me.

Second, I wonder if you might be fighting off a virus. Meat can be very hard on a tummy during a stomach virus. It might not show up as anything else, but just certain foods not staying down. I would give it a 1 week and slowly try one meat type a week, so that you can see which ones are messing with you and which ones are okay.

Good luck. Let us know how things go.

Hey Mo!  I'm a couple months behind you so I thought I'd chime in. No, I have not experienced that, but I have realized that I can't do whey protein at all. It constipated me like crazy and it's just not worth it. After just 2 days off of it, my bowels became perfectly normal. I also went more vegetarian in general, more whole grains, veggies, fruits and making my own green juices and my digestive tract has finally gotten normal. No more gas and bloating. I say if it bothers you then don't eat it. Hope you figure it out!

Do you still have your gall bladder? My friend started having issues with not being able to handle meat, and realized later as things progressed that it was GBD (after it came out..)

One possibility to think about is that our gut bacteria does shift to adjust to what we're eating, so the less red meat you eat, the more likely you are to have trouble if you eat more on occasion.  Seems to be an unlikely explanation if you've been eating poultry and now can't but depending on the pattern, it might be  factor.  I've also come across VSG folks who've reported issues with bezoars.  Not sure why we're more prone to them exactly, but I've heard anything from celery (it's stringy) to sausage casings can build up and cause a blockage - might explain why denser foods seem to be more of a problem.

Could be completely unrelated to surgery.  My mom and grandma (neither had wls) both developed problems with tolerating meat (difficulty swallowing and digesting it) as they got older.  Ended up being some totally fixable gastro problem (can't remember the details).  I'd call the doc.  Good luck!
