What kind of iron do you take?

I've been taking bariatric advantage chewable iron for a long time. I hate that their shipping is so expensive. I'm hoping there is something I can just buy locally.

I was wondering where you get your iron if you take iron. I know some is supposed to be more gentle to the system. It's very constipating and I have trouble with that anyway, so is there a kind that would be less likely to cause constipation?

Thank you!

I just started taking my TenderI ron from Vitalady again... not local, but I had a container and a half in the basement!

I had been taking it and unknowingly drove my ferritin up waaaay too high a while back, had to quit for a year.. now I'm back in the middle range, so I pop a couple a week.. it never caused me constipation when I took it daily. Carbonyl iron, I've seen it on the shelves from manufacturers like Sundown etc.. maybe try that?

I use the Celebrate brand... about once per week. My levels are fine and if I take too much, there's the constipation issue. YMMV, of course.

I took Tender Iron from Vitalady for a long time too. Her shipping is really high too.

I just bought some sort of liquid iron from Walgreens, so we shall see. I run low normal taking iron every day, and I get anemic quickly if i don't take it. I was still anemic on Vitalady Tender iron. This has been advertised to cause less side effects so I take that to mean constipation.

I get Bariatric Advantage on auto-ship so there's no shipping charges.

I don't take any iron, as I'm post menopausal and cleared it with the NUT.   The 50+ women's multivitamins have no iron in them.  My iron panel was fine.  However, at my daughter's recent neurological appt., the dr. was questioning restless leg, treated by 6 months of iron supplements.  He gave us a list of different kinds and said that "Gentle Iron" does not have the problems with constipation as it's a different form of iron.  It's more expensive, so that's why most folks get the other kind, but it works just as well.  I'm not sure where to get it yet, but I'd ask your pharmacist as, if they don't have it, they might be able to order it for you.
