Cold weather vs hot weather
I absolutely hate the heat. I don't tolerate it well, and also am vulnerable to skin cancer so really shouldn't spend much time in the sun. That said, I live in Dallas, Texas so have to endure it, anyway.
I love the cold weather. I love wearing sweaters and drinking hot tea and coffee. I guess even though my "people" left the UK over 200 years ago, my genetics predispose me to this.
However, when it comes to VSG, I have a reason to look forward to warmer weather, and even heat. When it's hot I have no problem downing lots of water and iced tea. I also drink both without any desire to munch along with it.
This is not true of hot drinks. Hot drinks make me craze something sweet. I've gotten through the winter by eating Greek yogurt w/sugarfree syrup along with my coffee, and I'm doing fine on my weight. I've been happily in a quasi-maintenance mode all winter. Since Dec 12 I've lost 7 pounds, but I haven't been trying. I've been weighing daily and just being mindful of what I eat, and I'm really happy with this. If it doesn't change, I'm fine with it. I'll eventually get to a goal I never DREAMED I'd set, and painlessly at this point.
But I'm also thinking that when it gets warmer I may start finding it easier to drop weight because I'll not have the issue of "hot drinks" to deal with, and I will be moving more--at least until it gets so hot I am hiding inside again!
My question is this. In general, do most people who are maintaining find winter more problematical than summer? Is what I'm experiencing pretty typical? I have friends w/o weight issues who normall gain in the winter and drop weight in the summer, which is why I'm asking.
I find it easier to lose in the warmer weather, simply because of the fresh fruits and veggies available to me. I get sluggish in the winter time and seem to crave comfort food more than summer. I gained 7 pounds this winter, but only because I ate way too many macadamia nuts covered in chocolate during our 10 days in Hawaii. I've lost 3 of it, and now want to lose 4-5 more. Yes, I guess I'm no longer in maintenance, I'm in the losing mode again. Maybe I had better start drinking some protein drinks again. I tend to tolerate heat much better than cold. Living in Iowa, I get the worst of both. I never complained last summer about 100 degree heat, because I knew I would want it back when winter hit. I was right. I hate the cold.
