Can you eat an apple?

I have developed this weird apple thing. I had been doing apple slices, but I don't like how quickly they get a little brown so I decided to try to going back to just eating an apple. My favorite kind is red delicious, and I deliberately don't buy the big ones, just the medium size ones that come in the bags.

My problem: I can't come close to finishing one. On the smallest I might get 3/4 of the way, but often there's a third or more left when I toss it in the tra****ry to only dish out what I can eat with most foods, but normally tossing what's already on my plate and I can't finish doesn't bother me. But for some reason tossing the apples does bug me; mostly, I think, because I buy them knowing I'm going to have to throw a third of each one away.

But I looooove apples. Really missed them during loss. Makin' me nuts.

yeah I can now eat a small apple but for a long time I couldn't. i am now past 3 years out.  so I used to eat a half one and put the other half in the fridge in plastic and yeah it turns a little brown but who cares. but if you swi**** in water with some lemon juice added it won't turn brown.  and lemon juice from a bottle works.

my hubby loves apples and is a little past one year. he gets small ones and eats them slowly. like right now he has a half eaten one sitting in a dish.

we buy our apples where we can pick them individually so we get little ones.

there is an apple orchard 4 miles from our house and pre surgery we used to go there weekly and get loads. I think this year we will go back. its nice because we can choose the small ones. they have about 25 kinds and they will liturally go get some off the trees if they don't have what you want.

costco has these dried apple chips that are pretty good.

I'm a big apple lover too.  It depends on the day, but I can't eat a whole apple most of the time.  I try to pick out the smallest ones I can.  I have a friend at work that will split an apple with me, as I hate to throw them away.  Sometimes I'll cut 1/4-1/3 up and put it in my yogurt.  I put the remainder in the fridge and just cut a paper thin slice off each side to get the brown off, when I use the rest, and it works fine.

The idea of cutting a thin slice to get the brown off sounds promising. I guess I always imagine it going all the way through. If I got a regular sized apple, I could easily get two servings that way. I'll try it!

This is a very interesting thread to me.  i still can't eat 2oz of protein at one time however a good sized apple, medium maybe you'd consider it bigger, i have no problem with.  i always cut it in slices and when i started eating them a couple of months ago I'd only cut half of it because i didn't think i could fini**** but fini**** i did.  I'll never understand how some of us can and can't some items.  I can't eat a whole fage yogurt for instance but a whole apple no problem,  Orange also.  Mind you i do eat it over a 30-45 minute time slot which does make a difference.

Now I can eat a whole yogurt, but again I nurse it. I couldn't eat it all at once.

Generally, the brown is just on the outer layer where the air hits it. Otherwise it's fine.  I usually put the apple to use later in a container or bag, so it doesn't dry up, and it tastes good.

Mom, I'm confused.  You could eat a whole apple in slices, but you can't eat a whole apple when you just eat it as a whole?  Do you leave the peel on both ways?

I don't seem to have a problem eating a medium apple in slices, but I peel it because I don't like the peels.  I'm surprised to see the responses too, but we are all different.

On another note, I am looking at MFP, and I just noticed today that my sugar is way over what it should be.  So if it's over but I am still eating a maintenance level in calories, does it do much harm?  I am getting this tire around the middle, but I have thought it was loose skin.  It is most evident when I sit.

Anyway, 165.8 today.

Have a great one!

With apple slices, I could just serve myself as many slices as I wanted. But they are expensive and I never finished the package because they went brown so quickly. Whole apples are cheaper, but I feel so wasteful throwing over 1/3 of each apple away.

Oh, and on the sugar thing, research is showing that sugars do make a huge difference health wise. They are starting to learn that they cause metabolic syndrome independent of obesity.
