Has anyone else had this happen?
This is kind of a continuation from my previous post. Has anyone else had a weight gain that just seems to come out of the blue? Last week I was 141 and this week I'm up to 143. I know I have not eaten enough to have a 2 pound gain, especially because I have been logging my calories and I've increased exercise. Has anyone else had this happen where weight just seems to keep going up and up seemingly over night and out of the blue?
If you just started exercising again, your muscles may be holding on water. See how the next week or so goes. If you are logging your food and exercising, you may start losing some inches and your clothes may fit better. I had a few pounds of weight gain and the turning point for me, was when some pants started feeling snug. I started tracking my food, cut out some things that I had allowed back into my diet. I also started exercising regularly. I had let things go for about 6 weeks. The first week back to a full exercise schedule, my weight went up a pound. The following week, it dropped a little over a pound and has continued to drop a little more over the past few weeks. The biggest difference , is that my clothes are fitting better and I feel like things are under control again.
if your weight gain persists despite doing all the right things, please see your care provider so that your thyroid can be checked. The exercise will help to boost your metabolism. The weight loss will be slower than it was during the weight loss phase and you want it to be slower, so that you are losing fat and not as much muscle mass. I am satisfied with 2 lbs this month.
i hope this helps .
Hugs.
PS. Over the weekend, my weight went up a pound overnight, which I chalked up to fluid, since I was doing the right things. The next day,it was back down. Things are bound to turn around, if you continue to do the right things.
Thanks for the reply. Normally I would say it is water weight but I've been drinking a lot of water and in fact, last night I was up about 3 times peeing. I've been peeing pretty regularly so I know I'm staying hydrated. I am going to Vegas this weekend for my hubbs and my 25th anniversary (Lord help me!) I'm concerned about eating since I won't have much control of how food is prepared, etc. but I'm going to do my best. I am packing my tennies so hopefully we can get in some walking or maybe even exercising.
Body weight swings of +/- 2 lbs are pretty normal. I know that I can swing 3 lbs either way depending on sodium, fluids, how late you ate the night before, exercise and "mystical forces"
If you increased exercise, that can have a temporary retention effect unless you go crazy and do massive exercise and sweat a few quarts and then hop on the scale... but your muscles will want fluids to help repair.
Also if you're consuming much in the way of carbs, that tends to cause water retention as well - I believe the ratio is 4g water for each 1g of carb.
There are so many variables that most of us just have to live in a 5 lb range and be happy about that. That's why I track my weight daily - a single weigh isn't enough - you have to see the trend over time to see where things are really heading since weight can bob up and down.
Also it helps to be consistent on when you weigh.

It could also be a food alergy starting. I had NEVER had anything when I ate corn. So one day I ate some corn and the next day I looked over my diet and didn't see anything that hadn't been there with the exception that I had 1/2 cup of corn...I thought NOOOOO so I tested it and YUP, now at 42 corn causes me retention. So does tofu as well.
